Donald Trump Jr was among those who retweeted misleading figures published by News Corp.
Victoria police say there is no evidence any of the devastating bushfires in the state were caused by arson, contrary to the spread of global disinformation exaggerating arsonist arrests during the current crisis.
A misleading figure suggesting 183 arsonists have been arrested “since the start of the bushfire season” spread across the globe on Wednesday, after initial reports in News Corp were picked up by Donald Trump Jr, US far-right websites and popular alt-right personalities.
“There is currently no intelligence to indicate that the fires in East Gippsland and the North East have been caused by arson or any other suspicious behaviour,” a Victoria police spokeswoman said.

Kind of like all the people claiming that climate change caused the Puerto Rico earthquakes. Does Facebook censor them? If not, I can see a good class action suit succeeding.
Just like there’s no evidence whatsoever that proves men don’t have periods and can’t get pregnant. It’s totally normal and something we should embrace, cherish, and be proud of. Any talk of it being something else is obviously misleading and entirely fake. Other than, like you know, biology and lack of lady bits.

Sure, you can’t “rule out” climate change as a cause of the fires. Neither can you “rule out” the orbit of the third moon of Jupiter as the cause.
Wait a minute now. There are Australian and UK papers saying they arrested dozens of arsonists.

(There are bushfires every year in Australia. The eco-terrorists apparently weren’t satisfied with the social media responses to the fires in California, the fires in the rainforest, and the Greta slobbering. Social media currently is being lit up by fake charts claiming that this was the hottest year “on record” for Australia.)
