Police contradict claims spread online exaggerating arson’s role in Australian bushfires

Donald Trump Jr was among those who retweeted misleading figures published by News Corp.

Victoria police say there is no evidence any of the devastating bushfires in the state were caused by arson, contrary to the spread of global disinformation exaggerating arsonist arrests during the current crisis.

A misleading figure suggesting 183 arsonists have been arrested “since the start of the bushfire season” spread across the globe on Wednesday, after initial reports in News Corp were picked up by Donald Trump Jr, US far-right websites and popular alt-right personalities.

“There is currently no intelligence to indicate that the fires in East Gippsland and the North East have been caused by arson or any other suspicious behaviour,” a Victoria police spokeswoman said.

!snip!

Okay, fair enough. Where is the evidence the fires were cause by man made global warming?

Where are the admonitions for lunatic left-wing websites with their ludicrous and unsubstantiated claims that have been proven false over and over again.

Assholes.

  1. When asked about proof that the fires were directly related to man made global warming one official was quoted as saying:
“Proof? We don’t need no stinkin’ proof!”
    And there you have it.

  2. Almost makes me want to start up with this social media thing!

Nah, F it. Ain’t gonna happen. Come here, play with my e-mail friends and on rare occasions mash the little keys on my “flip phone” while trying to text.

And yet friend wife and progeny do it…

Still, good to know that others care about you Mr. Big.

  3. Just like there’s no evidence whatsoever that proves men don’t have periods and can’t get pregnant. It’s totally normal and something we should embrace, cherish, and be proud of. Any talk of it being something else is obviously misleading and entirely fake. Other than, like you know, biology and lack of lady bits.

Clearly the left is out to destroy all truth to usher in a one-world unified utopia, dissenters will destroy it with a singular untrue fact and therefore must be destroyed.

EDIT: Hmmmm.. I had another paragraph but it didn’t post? I’m not going to retype it!

  5. These “fact” checks look like political spin to me. Of course that’s all “facts” are good for these days – proving your version of political and social correctness.

The truth ain’t ought there anymore – it’s on the printing room floor with the other unusable quotes and notes about stories and “reporter” features. Don’t you just hate the 15 second sound bites used in news reporting?

CNN would definitely say I have a punch-able face if they heard my feelings and political views.

I don’t think “Make America Great again” goes far enough – it should be “bring back the ’50’s values and skirt lengths.

  8. “A misleading figure suggesting 183 arsonists have been arrested ”
No, it said that number of persons have been questioned OR arrested.

  9. Why is Fakebbook picking on iOTWr? Seem they’re intimidated by an influential, effective conservative site. Even though Fakebook continues to be hostile, consider it a badge of honor they think iOTWr is a major threat.

  10. “There is currently no intelligence to indicate that the fires in East Gippsland and the North East have been caused by arson or any other suspicious behaviour”…

    What about everywhere else?

(There are bushfires every year in Australia. The eco-terrorists apparently weren’t satisfied with the social media responses to the fires in California, the fires in the rainforest, and the Greta slobbering. Social media currently is being lit up by fake charts claiming that this was the hottest year “on record” for Australia.)
