The bill was introduced by Sen. John Rodgers, D-Essex-Orleans. Rodgers said Wednesday he introduced the bill to make a point.
The bill, S 212, would make owning or possessing a cellphone a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year behind bars and a $1,000 fine.
The state lawmaker believes people under the age of 21 are “not mature enough” to use a cellphone and even claimed cellphones are more dangerous than guns.
The bill also claims that many young people are radicalized online.
Even if cellphones were banned, people still have access to computers.
You just can’t make this stuff up.
Imagine all the job opportunities for people between the age of 18 and 21 this bill would snuff out.
The same d-bag party wants teens to vote, however.

I don’t know about cell phones, but politicians
are definitely far more dangerous than guns.
I don’t think cellphones should be illegal for anyone, but I think it should be expected that parents have some level of common sense. My 13 yr old is one of about 3 kids in school that doesn’t have a phone. He has yet to provide a rational reason why he needs one. No 13 yr old can provide a reason, yet their parents provide it at age 10 or earlier.
For my son’s 13th bday he had a sleepover with 6 kids. Around 11pm they were racing 6 phones off the stairs, BAM onto the hardwood floor below. “Oh, my mom will buy me a new one if this one breaks.” Really? That’s a reason why my kid doesn’t have one. sheesh.
Ecp has it right
I wouldn’t have a problem banning smart phones for people under 18, except for voice capability.
As for jobs, I can’t think of any that require anything else.
Under 21, no cell phone?
Works for me. I see far more advantages than minuses. If they get their faces out of cell phones, maybe they’ll have time to learn trades, how to communicate, how to cut wood, how to properly handle a firearm…
I can dream…….
When millions of people start dropping dead from brain cancer caused by 10-20 years usage of cell phones then you’ll know how dangerous they are.
Read the article.
He said he’s a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and the Legislature “seems bent on taking away our Second Amendment rights.”
He’s trying to prove a point re the 2A, in that the use of cells phones have resulted in bullying induced suicides, and terrorists using them to communicate/ignite bombs…as compared to guns.
He said he has no expectations the bill would ever pass, nor would he vote for it.
I use my cell phone as often as I used a pay phone, and then only for work. It is nice to have for an emergency (like a ‘dial for a tow truck’ emergency OR ‘dial 911’ emergency). It should not function in a motor vehicle unless same is parked and the ignition is off.
Dems apparently don’t care about pissing off future voting blocks –
