Chicago Tribune

The slogan once plastered outside the Rev. Clarence Smith Jr.’s storefront church on Chicago’s West Side promised to make the “ministry meaningful to the imperfect man.”

It turns out Smith has been far from perfect himself, federal authorities allege.

  1. His flock consistently voted ‘D’ so it’s OK.
Happens hundreds of times a day all over the country – lotsa guys buying trucks and stuff with taxpayer dollars – not all of em “pastors” though. What happened to that “separation of church and state” thing? The maggots don’t seem to caterwaul too much if the church supports statist totalitarianism.

If he was a union boss or a university chancellor, nobody’d give a damn.

  2. TRF, back in the day in the late 70’s and early 80’s the Bhagwan was daily news in this part of the country. And boy did he ever sucker a lot of new age hippies. Yep and Joel Osteen is the guilty white Christians version of the Bhagwan with his prosperity gospel bs.

  3. Dead John Lennon’s Bentley used to be parked in the Underground Garage behind the House of Representatives (don’t recall East or West).
So, somebody in the House was pulling a pretty good scam, too.

Had a car cover over it, so the Parking Security people were aware it was being stored at taxpayer expense.
