Actor Patrick Stewart announced he would reprise the role of Jean-Luc Picard in a revival of Star Trek , and he’s doing so as a rebuke to President Trump and Brexit.
Stewart said the new CBS streaming show Star Trek: Picard would critique the galactic body of planets known as the Federation becoming “isolationist.”
“In a way, the world of ‘Next Generation’ had been too perfect and too protected,” Stewart told Variety. “It was the Enterprise. It was a safe world of respect and communication and care and, sometimes, fun.”
Stewart says the new show “was me responding to the world of Brexit and Trump and feeling, ‘Why hasn’t the Federation changed? Why hasn’t Starfleet changed?’ Maybe they’re not as reliable and trustworthy as we all thought.”
Stewart went on to say that he believes the U.S. under Trump and the UK under Prime Minister Boris Johnson are “completely fucked.”
“I’m not sure which one of us is in the most trouble,” he says of Britain and the US. “I think it’s actually the U.K. I think we’re f—ed, completely f—ed. There is a time limit to your f—ed state, which is four years away.”

The original Star Trek was capitalist – they weren’t afraid to step on toes to get things done, the opposition’s feelings be damned, including the politicians at Star Fleet.
Next Gen was socialist – it was all about feelings and being nice so “undocumented” aliens didn’t want to bitch slap the Federation and its lackeys. One episode even had them considering letting Wesley (much as he deserved it otherwise) be executed for an environmental crime – stepping on flowers. They pretty much covered every leftist talking point the progs had thought up at the time.

Never cared for, nor watched TNG beyond the premier and first several episodes. It was just off…way too in your face PC.
Out of curiosity I just took a peak at IMDB’s listing for this mess: Space Balls! They pulled Seven of Nine out of retirement! That Borg babe and Sub-Cdr T’Pol (SG: Enterprise) are pretty much all I can recall from the Post Original Series efforts. (Well, I do seem to remember a parasite symbiot chick from DS-9, but that was just kinda weird).
Still not gonna watch it. Well, I said that about Voyager too. Held firm until the 3rd season. (I know, I know…sigh…what can I say?)
