US and UK Agree To Finally Protect Titanic Wreck Site

Breitbart

AFP — Britain on Tuesday hailed a new treaty with the United States that seeks to protect the wreck of the Titanic from damage by explorers and tourists.

The remains of the ship lie largely intact 2.5 miles (four kilometres) below the surface of the north Atlantic Ocean, after it hit an iceberg in 1912.

But there have been growing concerns about visitors taking artefacts, leaving rubbish and even placing plaques in memory of the 1,500 people who died.

An international treaty to limit access was signed by Britain in 2003 but only ratified by the United States in November last year. More

  1. tourists? … do you realize how much $$$ would be required to get robotics down 2.5 miles … it takes about 3 hours of dive time just to get down there (w/ a submersible vehicle) … what the hell they gonna do? … set up concession stands w/ souvenirs?

on second thought Disney would pollute this in a heart beat for a buck … like they did w/ Star Wars … go for it UNESCO

  2. I’m OK with leaving all tragic sea events alone, undisturbed. From cruise ships to battle ships to antique ‘tall’ ships. They are watery grave sites and should be respected in that way.
