Orson Bean, a veteran actor known in the 1950s and 1960s for appearances on “The Twilight Zone” and other shows, then later as a panelist on TV game shows such as “To Tell the Truth,” died Friday night in Los Angeles, according to reports. He was 91.
Bean was reportedly struck by a vehicle while crossing a street in the city’s beachfront neighborhood of Venice, FOX 11 of Los Angeles reported. He was pronounced dead at the scene, Officer Tony Im of the Los Angeles Police Department told the station. More
Bean was also Andrew Breitbart’s father-in-law.
My sympathies go out to the family. Andrew was a reminder that bad things happen to good people.
I remember him well from all his appearances on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show. He became more conservative over the years. God speed, Orson Bean.
He had a quirky sense of humor. RIP Mr. Orson Bean.
RIP, Mr. Bean. I remember him from my youth. Enjoyed his performances and loved his humor. He was the voice of Bilbo in the cartoon version of the Hobbit.
He even appeared on an episode of 2.5 Men
Bean didn’t kill himself. Killary killed him
F4UCorsair, he did indeed have a quirky sense of humor which I loved as a kid. He also contributed 4 articles to Mad Magazine back in the 50’s The first was from Mad #31 Feb. 1957 called Orson Bean opens his family album, the second was from Mad #32 April 57, Making a paper eucalyptus tree, an Orson Bean routine, the third was from Mad #34 Aug. 57 The 2 Chinese fellas who go to an American restaurant routine and finally Orson Bean’s civil war from Mad #37 Jan.58. I still have my copies of all these old Mad Magazines which is why I remembered them. I didn’t even know he was still alive until now. Thank you Orson Bean for being part of my childhood and having a goofy sense of humor that contributed to my own humor as well.
May God hold him in His loving arms. Thank you for all the laughs You gave us through Your vessel, Orson Bean. He cracked me up many times.
dollars to donuts it was an illegal driving the car.
When AB was alive and well, he would go on the Dennis Miller Show, radio, on occasion and OB would tag along with him, made for great modern radio. Also in tow was OB’s daughter and wife of AB.
@C- I had forgotten about that one. Rankin and Bass I believe.
RIP Sir.
Sonny Bono on the left of the set. Sad way to die for both of these guys.
The older sister of one of my high school friends used to babysit Orson Bean’s kids. She said on the back of the bathroom door was a lifesize poster of Orson watching you as you peed. Over thirty years since I heard that story and I still laugh my ass off when I think about it.
RIP Orson. You were hilarious.
“Safe At Home” was his recent autobiographical one man show. He was still sharp.
Interview with him may still be on Dennis Miller’s podcast.
Why did I gasp when I saw this? Because Orson always brought a laugh from the TV shows to Dennis Miller’s Show. So sad to end like this.
I saw another report saying one vehicle clipped him sending Bean into traffic where a second car struck him. Both drives stayed on the scene when police arrived trying to revive him.

I just saw him in an old episode of Murder She Wrote the other day.
That is sad news indeed.
Tiger Eyes, I thought that was Doc Severinsen, the band leader, to the left. I agree with all comments about Mr. Bean. Makes me sad when someone so tied to the wonderful memories of my youth passes on. How terrible for his family that it had to be in this manner.
As I recall, in Breitbart’s autobiography he credited Orson Bean with bringing him around to the conservative point of view. A sad ending, but 91 years well-lived.
Wow, didn’t remember Orson Bean was Andrew’s father-in-law.
Ia AB’s wife still alive. Please keep her close to you Dear Abba.
Always liked the ol’ Bean. He was erudite without being show-offy.
Couldn’t have been DeNiro, huh?
RIP, Mr. Bean.
Tin foil hat possibilites aside- this is incredibly sad.
From what I can gather it really just was an unfortunate accident. 🙁
