Remember this like yesterday! Still gives me goosebumps.
…I remember it, when I scored the final goal against Russia on a slap shot after my team mate Brian Williams sent the puck in from the wing. It was almost as good a feeling as the day I sucessfully prevented the 9/11/01 attacks when I was mayor of NYC then, while absolutely not saying mean things about women and nigg-what? Oh, Black people.
But I did notice that Donald Trump was there, conspiring with the Russian coach that a whistleblower told me was really Vladimir Putin.
And here I am, still fighting Russians and Donald Trump.
Please help me put Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in the penalty box permanently. Vote Bloomberg/Clinton in 2020

I knew two of the players that were on the team from when they played at Bowling Green State University. Ken Morrow & Mark Wells. Morrow went on to win four consecutive Stanley Cups right after winning Gold in Lake Placid.
Watched this on a 27″ TV in Driscoll’s Cafe in Plymouth MA. The tiny bar was seriously overcrowded, you couldn’t move. the Narragansett draft was awful but cheap and the chili was good and plentiful. It was utter pandemonium, and when it happened, Damn.
I remember that like it was last week and I’m not a hockey fan. Funny but it seems like sporting events from then were much more anticipated and watchable. Maybe I’m just getting old but what can hold a candle to Ali or the 69 Mets or the AFL or ABA or Mark Spitz. How about that iconic image of Secretariat winning the Belmont Stakes by 40 lengths? Or Mr October?
Nowadays I get up for any of the Grand Slam tennis majors and that’s about it. Don’t know how I’ll feel when Rafa and Fed retire, Novak too. I’ve been very lucky to have such great competitors to watch. The young man(Theim) that took on Novak in the finals in Melbourne keeps getting closer to a win.
What can you say? The greatest sports victory of all time.
I was alone in my apartment and at the last buzzer, I screamed and whooped. I could hear several of the whoops and hollers from my neighbors, too!

I think I can deal with 1970 being 50 years ago. I think I can deal with 1990 being 30 years ago. But for some reason 1980 being 40 years ago bothers me.
I got the opportunity to play in a hockey tournament on that very sheet of ice in 1990. We were the only U.S. team (Seattle). The rest of the field was made up with Toronto area teams and others from the Ontario and Quebec area. We were given little chance of winning one game.
Turns out we made the finals, only dropping the championship to the Hilltop Summits (Toronto) 2-1. We took silver. We played the best hockey ever as a team during that tournament. Everything just seemed to click for us. The teams we were playing were better and deeper than us. We were outshot in every game. But we never quit. There is no doubt that our success had a lot to do with the inspirational element of that arena.
I do believe in miracles.

Canadian hockey fans deserve credit for one of the cleverest rally slogans ever. When Canada played Russia, when it was still called the Soviet Union, Canadian fans would yell: Da Da Canada, Nyet, Nyet Soviet!

Average age 22 college boys beat Soviet professionals, look @ 1:45:00 the Soviets are stunned.
Not sure if many know but this was for the Silver Medal and they beat the Finns for the Gold.
