China Sending 100,000 Ducks To Pakistan – To Eat Their Way Through Locust Swarm

Independent

China will send troops of ducks to Pakistan to help battle against a huge locust infestation that poses a threat to regional food security.

At least 100,000 ducks will be deployed 4,827 kilometres (nearly 3,000 miles) from the eastern province of Zhejiang to Pakistan, which shares a border with the Xinjiang province.

Lu Lizhi, a researcher at the Zhejiang Provincial Institute of Agricultural Technology, told local newspaper The Ningbo Evening News the ducks proved to be an effective method of controlling locust infestations 20 years ago.

In 2000, a 700,000-strong army of ducks and chickens were sent to Xinjiang to gain control over swarms of locusts that devoured over 3.8 million hectares of crops and grassland.

At the time, researchers found the ducks were more efficient than chickens at guzzling down the devastating pests. More

  1. If the ducks don’t work and the locusts eat the crops, at least the Pakistanis can eat the ducks. I wood say that eider way, it’s a good teal.

    edit:
I tried to work “mallard” in there but I guess I’m a lard-head.

    > So assuming the ducks do eat all the grasshoppers, what do the ducks eat then… the crops they were sent in to protect?

Like all Goodâ„¢ Temporaryâ„¢ Guestâ„¢ Workersâ„¢, when the job’s done, they’ll pack up and go back to their sh!t hole country of birth.

  3. 400 billion locusts. 1 duck eats an average of 200 bugs per day. They’re going to need either more ducks or maybe some geese. I thought it was funny that China’s minister said that the duck solution was so much greener than using pesticides. When did China ever care about the environment. We’re talking about a country who “harvests” vital organs from religious prisoners to whom they don’t bother to anesthetize.

  4. Chinese ducks are like Chinese people, they will eat anything and everything. They have a scorched earth policy when it comes to eating. They can’t wait for these ducks to come home all full of locusts.

  5. Wrong again Average Brad.. what ducks eat…..”Small fish and fish eggs Snails, worms, slugs, and mollusks Small crustaceans such as crayfish Grass, leaves, and weeds Algae and aquatic plants and roots Frogs, tadpoles, salamanders, and other amphibians Aquatic and land insects Seeds and grain Small berries, fruits, and nuts In addition to these nutritious foods, some ducks will also eat sand, gravel, pebbles, and small shells to provide grit that aids their digestion .”….

YOU’RE STARTING TO GET UNDER MY SKIN PAL. tHOSE ARE CONSIDERED DIVERS AND NOBODY EATS DIVERS BECAUSE OF THEIR DIETS. tHEY ARE A NASTY TASTING DUCK. YOU ARE DESCRIBING A MUD HEN OR A SPOONEY. EVERY FIGHT YOU’VE EVER PICKED WITH ME YOU’VE LOST. WTF IS YOUR DEAL?

PS, THOSE DUCKS STILL WOULDN’T PUT A DENT IN THEIR LOCUST PROBLEM. SO LIKE I SAY, THEY MUST HAVE A DIFFERENT STRAIN OF DUCK. ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO ARGUE ABOUT?

  7. Sorry Average Brad….I mean no ill will. Ever seen a green head tipped upside down eating off of the bottom of a lake? Can you explain the genetic evolution of the shape of their bill? And NO it’s not to put chapstick on….LOL….Seriouslty Brad, are you feeling OK? You got some issues?…..I’ll leave you alone. Your rage is too close to the surface….be well….

  8. Your average wild duck does not primarily eat bugs. They eat grains. That’s why you hunt them over rice fields. I just googled it and the ChiComs are sending over domesticated geese. Which forage off the ground.

  9. @Aaron Burr….there ya have it….Ducks eat more bugs then grain. Mostly because they can’t drive tractors to plant crops. Their little webbed feet can’t reach the pedals so they quack up and ruin the tractor….

  10. GEESE!?!?!?!?!?! I HATE THOSE F@#&$^% PIECE OF @%$# BIRDZ!!!!!!

Fudge. Now I’m totally rooting for the locusts.

I’ve been bitten by a Chinese goose. It was big. It was loud. It was a dick. Also, it happened in Golden Gate park in S.F. I worked there. Fuggin’ rat bastard Chinese geese hung out where we kept the chain saws and wood splitters.

To this day on the rare occasions I eat Chinese food, it’s muther trucking Peking duck.

Let’s see how you geese enjoy being bitten.

    um…sorry for the rant.

    Fuggin geese, man.

  11. And every duck you shoot over rice and clean you will find has a belly full of rice. This is tiresome because once again, you have no practical experience. You just run your mouth.

  12. muther truckin’ San Francisco flashbacks….. but with geese.

RIGHT BEHIND THE KNEE. Fuggin’ Chinese goose had fangs or something….

Imagine. You fire up a chainsaw and the buffalo in the enclosure ram the fence, whole thing sags, yawn.

Goose wanders into yard…. GAAAAHH!!!!!!! CALL 911!!!!

Totally ruined any naivete I had about nature.

Compared to the unmatched evil of geese, this duck argument lacks wings.

  13. I’m going to type this slowly….”What do the ducks eat when there ain’t any rice in the field because a) it’s been harvested… b) the field is flooded and ain’t producing rice yet… c) they went south and there ain’t no grain to eat near the wet lands where they set up winter residence because it’s all been harvested or doesn’t have any”….

Practical experience….went duck hunting twice and it bored me to death, sit in a blind and freeze your ass off. Now, talk to me about pheasant, quail, and grouse. I’ve done plenty enough…Wanna know what pheasant, quail and grouse eat, especially when they are newly hatched?…BUGS….grain comes later. because they have to have a working gizzard which requires the tasting of grit and sand…same with ducks……I’m out….

  14. Chinese geese eat nails and broken glass.

Most of them smoke cheap knock off brand cigs and they all have some form of herpes.

Sending 100,000 Chinese geese anywhere should be considered an act of war.

  15. “What do the ducks eat when there ain’t any rice in the field because a) it’s been harvested”

You do realize Waterfowl is migratory for a reason right?

Also, we hunt over harvested rice fields, flooded. There’s a ton of rice they miss. Lays on the bottom of the field and up on the checks. That’s what ducks we are after eat. They start in Northern Canada and Alaska. Eat corn all the way down to the Pacific and Central Flyways, where they eat rice. Then down to Mexico where they gorge themselves on tortillas. Then they fly back north. You don’t know shit about ducks.
