Charlotte Bojangles’ locked out Trump supporters after MAGA rally; chain apologizes

Bojangles’ apologized Tuesday for one of its restaurants locking out supporters of President Donald Trump after his appearance at a large rally in Charlotte Monday night.

The Bojangles’ restaurant location, on Monroe Road in Charlotte, is just a 10-minute walk from the Bojangles’ Coliseum where Trump spoke to more than 10,000 people. The venue for the “Make America Great Again” rally was full, with attendees without seats watching on a big screen in the parking lot.

Bojangles’ is based in Charlotte.

Now some Trump supporters say they’ll boycott the chicken restaurant chain after being refused service even though they’d arrived nearly an hour before closing time.

The head of the chain’s communications told The Charlotte Observer in an interview Tuesday the restaurant was likely overwhelmed with customers following Trump’s event.

Still, he apologized. He did not confirm whether the people locked out of the restaurant were given any explanation for its sudden closure.

  1. Give me a break, “overwhelmed by the crowd” when you are within 10 minutes on foot of the stadium area and not only have regular large crowds but also count on sports/concert large crowds to keep the lights on.

  4. And there’s THIS from their Facebook site: “To all our Bojangles’ fans. An unfortunate incident happened at our store near Bojangles’ Coliseum earlier this week. A manager made a bad decision to close the dining room. We apologize. That manager is no longer employed by Bojangles’. At a different store, a customer posted a sign that is not true. We welcome ALL customers.”

They’re getting blasted by the readers and I think I’ll just hop over there and pile on.

I know Bojangles is probably just covering their six, and the excuse sounds weak, but consider this: the article claims that over 10,000 people were at the rally. Bojangles Coliseum only has 8,600 seats. No major league professional sports team plays there. It’s likely that they genuinely have never seen that many people there before.

If they want to stick with the “overwhelmed” excuse, fine. They’re just admitting that Trump packed that arena to overflowing, which is something no sports team or rock band has ever done before.
