Coronavirus: NBA Suspends Season

UPDATE: NBA Suspends Season After Tonight’s Games After Player Tests Positive For Coronavirus.

The National Basketball Association has suspended the season until further notice.

——

USATODAY: Amid growing concerns about the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, the NBA and its owners are moving toward a scenario where games are played with essential personnel only and no fans, a person familiar with Wednesday’s conference call with NBA Commissioner Adam SIlver and owners told USA TODAY Sports.

The person requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the sensitive nature of the situation.

Another scenario was discussed: halting league operations for a period of time. While that idea had some traction, continuing the season was the favored option, the person said.

The league is expected to make a decision Thursday after more conversations with key stakeholders. The health and safety of players and fans remain the league’s top priority. If the league decides to play games with no fans, it does not preclude the league from changing its position in a fluid situation. If a player contracted the virus, the league could take the bold step of halting play. more

  1. I think I saw where Tom Hanks and his wife have tested positive in Australia. I’m not wishing this upon anyone, but it may be interesting to see how the Hollywood left calls this i.e. all Trump’s fault, blah blah blah.

  2. As soon as infections rates reverse, which according to everything I read (forced to read because nothing else is going on, apparently) it has started to, the media will drop the whole thing quicker than Bill Clinton’s pants at a bridal shower.

  3. OMG!

What will overweight white men age 35-42 do now that their pointless daily drama is coming to an end?

Now ALL of them will be in a depressive funk and pouting babies instead of being staggered everytime their team loses due to bad calls by the ref.

    Golden Corral bracing for impact.

  4. This needs to be done for may reasons:

One being up to 5-15k people in one dome ‘these days’ controlled (and somewhat recycled) by HVAC systems. Only more modern systems have outside air exchangers. Also, not everyone is clean and well dressed ya know! B-ball is a contact support and that is airborne at least at courtside

For two, many Chinese ‘high paying’ rich quasi capitalist nationals go to games to GAIN ACCESS and this was proven not too long ago if we all would remember, that NBA-Chinocom scandal that came and went. THE sheer amount of money that goes back and forth between the two??? Shut it down for that alone!

Something about players supporting / not supporting the Chicoms. I think there was a big name coach involved as well.

@Monkey – how far do YOU live from NY,patient 0???
Then YOU CAN TELL ME about toilet paper!! When YOU see it going on around you, ALL around you, then we can talk…if it is a disinfectant? IT’S GONE.

I don’t usually go into detail about my 10-20 but my fairly well prepped ‘ship’ is docked 4.6 miles away from NY-‘WhuFlu'(@MJA) ground zero’. And the office I work in of about twenty people has been closed for the week.

My good buddy had the tv trucks outside of his apartment with Wolfie Blitzer and Co. this evening.

This country fought a Revolution, a Civil War and participated in two major world wars. You all know this we have been through a lot, more like the dead the came before us.

This situation we find ourselves in requires perspective context and reason, unlike what we are seeing now.

  5. Just got word from my kid’s school. A student was exposed and awaiting testing. Supposedly we will know by 5AM. My kid was exposed to him for a week. That makes me fucked.

Hopefully it’s all negative or I’ll catch ya’ll on the flip.

  6. Did anyone else notice the news of this kind of coincided with when that trade deal went in our favor?? Was that not back in mid January?? And it’s called C-19 because ’19’ as in discovered/developed in 2019. It is also known to immunologists/virologists as SARS-2.

It would be a huge mistake to belittle ‘this’ which we really do not know yet. Many things are being cancelled and will be cancelled during ‘this’. Horse racing may be next? Local economies will be impacted and this ain’t good.

All of us(a) will be ‘affected’, if not EVER ‘infected’ by ‘this’.

  7. I’m hoping that after this all blows over, higher-ups at NBA HQ have been keeping track of the amount of money lost through game cancellation, and will SUE THE PANTIES off the DeMSM for all the unnecessary hype and panic.

  8. The US seasonal flu deaths are not required to be reported. So, instead, the CDC estimates using computer models (along with other historical data). However, deaths from coronavirus ARE required to be reported. So…Let’s see now…

The CDC estimated the US deaths from seasonal flu this year, up to February 29, is between 20,000 to 50,000.

The reported US coronavirus death count so far this year, to March 9, is 22 deaths.

So, now the coronavirus has been upgraded to a world pandemic Therefore, just ignore the seasonal flu.

I mean, WTF? Aren’t we missing something here?

  9. My little brother is pretty bummed about the cancellation but I mean what with all of the panic and a player catching it… what else did we expect???

I told him that it gives him more of a chance to get a new hobby (or better yet take up one of mine lol).

  10. Gave up on monkey-ball a long time ago (refers to both white/black players genetically grown to act like monkeys).

It ain’t natural sports anymore the way it’s played.
