Army Controversy Over John Piper’s Book Isn’t About Homophobia — It’s About Jesus

Federalist:

A senior Army chaplain earlier this month emailed other chaplains the text of “Coronavirus and Christ,” a brief book by famed author, podcaster, and pastor John Piper. The command chaplain of U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys in South Korea, Col. Moon H. Kim, wrote in his email: “This book has helped me refocus my sacred calling to my savior Jesus Christ to finish strong. Hopefully this small booklet would help you and your Soldiers, their Families, and others who you serve.”

This email and the attached book have led to complaints from 22 other chaplains, who’ve enlisted the help of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF). The MRFF, which consistently targets theologically conservative Christians, wrote a letter to Secretary of Defense Mark Esper, saying Moon must be “officially, swiftly, aggressively, and visibly investigated and disciplined in punishment for his deplorable actions.”

Since then, Moon’s comments have come under review, prompting a letter from 20 members of Congress — including Republican Reps. Louie Gohmert of Texas, Andy Biggs of Arizona, and Steve King of Iowa — calling for the Army not to buckle to this agenda-pushing third-party organization. The letter also outlines several other recent attacks of the MRFF on theologically conservative Christian chaplains.

If you read the entire text of Piper’s book, which is available for free, you will see its most incendiary idea is not the single paragraph about homosexuality. This short book ruffles feathers because it affirms the most offensive message in the history of the world: the Gospel of Jesus Christ. keep reading

  1. A Christian Chaplin speaks out for Jesus? How dare he!

Wasn’t there something about “He who speaks out for me will be persecuted.” Pehaps SuperNightShade can speak to that better than I.

“A Christian Chaplin speaks out for Jesus? How dare he!

Wasn’t there something about “He who speaks out for me will be persecuted.””

…I think the verse your thinking of is from Matthew, where our Lord is sending His apostles into the world to spread His word.

“16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

    17 But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;

18 And ye shall be brought before governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony against them and the Gentiles.

19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.

20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.

21 And the brother shall deliver up the brother to death, and the father the child: and the children shall rise up against their parents, and cause them to be put to death.

22 And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.”
    Matthew 10:16-22

…Jesus pulled no punches. He told His apostles and, by extension, ALL Christians, that serving Him would be no easy ride because the world would not LIKE His message of the Fathers authority over all things and the challenge it posed to hypocritical men pretending to lead, pretending to preach, and pretending to serve God, but only because it served THEM to do so.

And he KNEW his message would divide people even within a household, and SAYS so. A bit further on, He says,

“34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

35 For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

36 And a man’s foes shall be they of his own household.

37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.”
    Matthew 10:34-38

Here, he tells the apostles he comes with the sword, not in terms of warfare and hatred, but in how his message will cleave those who believe in Him from those who do NOT. Interstingly, he says “And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.”, WELL before He was crucified! This must have been a bit confusing to the Apostles as Jesus was foreshadowing his own death, but if Matthew was surprised, he doesn’t relate it here.

…But the Great Commission is not for the faint of heart. The Lord tells them further,

“23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.

24 The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord.”
    Matthew 10:23-24

that they are to carry His message everywhere, even places it will NOT be received, and when kicked out of same, on to the next forthwith. Jesus KNEW His message was NOT going to be accepted by all, and that it would sometimes be violently rejected, but He charged His follwers – us INCLUDED – to carry it to EVERYONE, that EVERYONE would hear and have a CHANCE to accept the gift He gives freely, or die forever. It was their choice to make, but the duty of the Apostles to give His word so they could make it.

    But to hearten them, He tells them this;

“28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.

30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.

31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.”
    Matthew 10:28-33

As long as they stayed loyal to Him, no man could kill them, only send them to Heaven. They need only fear if they denonuced Him, as then He would denouce them before the Father. The Father knows them and all about them, and great will be their reward in Heaven, as it will be for ANY who are persecuted for His name’s sake, but remain steadfast to Him.

The persecuted will be in good company. ALL the apostles were imprisoned, chased put of town, and martyred for His name’s sake, as He told them they would be. True to His word, though, the servant was indeed NOT above his lord, and He hmself suffered more than did they, and ALL of them for the redemption of mankind that could not happen any other way.

He died, that WE may live in Him. He was killed by men jealous of their own temporal authority, for no reason other than He made them look the hypocrites they are.

    Truth DOES that to ‘authority’.

THAT is why this chaplain is being persecuted, for being true to the Word. If the Lord died for it, though, it must be WORTH dying for, so he’s in the best of company and, indeed, not above his Lord…

…soldier on, Chaplain. Great will be your reward, if you stand only a little while longer…

God help this man, strengthen him to Your calling, and turn the points of his enemies swords to lead before him. Lord, make Your sign upon him to the shame of those that revile him for Your name’s sake. Lord, give him the words to reveal those who attack You through him as the generation of vipers that they ARE.

    God Bless,

  3. Wow, what a powerful little book. Free of SJW, All fools go to Heaven reprobate clap trap. Instead, this great message is an accurate discernment of The Word of God;
    Hebrews 4:12
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
This Chaplain Piper apparently has a very close relationship with God.

  4. Enough with the gay victim shit. Enough with the black victim shit. Enough with the feminist victim shit.

    People are one.

Though, some people are less than one. Obama comes to mind. So does hillary clinton. And pelosi. And biden. And kerry. And kamal harris. And jane fonda. And….

  5. Let me tell you something.

If it is alright to castigate white nationalists, then it is ok to castigate queers. Ok?

It is just as legal to be a white nationalist is as it is to be a queer.
And it certainly is no more immoral to be a white nationalist than it is to be a queer.

What about this vaunted wall of separation between church and state.
Well, if it means that the church has to stay out of the gov’t matters, meaning it has to stay out of lawmaking, then it also means that the gov’t has to stay on it’s side of the walls when it comes to moral issues, which is on the church side of the wall.

The gov’t has no authority to rule down on high about morals. They make laws. They are trespassing across the wall of separation.

If a US congressman can go on tv and say there is no room in this country for white nationalism, which is NOT a legal issue, then i damn sure can get up and proclaim that there is no room in this country for fucking queers.

  6. ^^^

They’ve been granted permanent identity rights and privileges that you and I will never know, while what we DO have per the Constitution is incrementally eroded out from under us.

  7. So why do we use “homophobia?”
There’s a difference between fear and revulsion.

Again, we allow them to control the language to the confuse the issues and to corrupt our youth.

    izlamo delenda est …

  8. And since it’s June already let me tell you how much I hate Pride month. Will they even allow the queers to parade their immorality this month? Will the queers riot and burn things to the ground because we don’t accept their perversion?

  9. Little Mikey Whinestein’s (the turd behind MRFF) bank account must be getting low. Sounds like he’s pushing for LibTard donations “to help him fight The Man” (and fatten his bank account).
