The Scrap Yard Dawgs, an independent professional softball team based in Texas, walked into the locker room Monday with no idea what was waiting for them. All of their phones were bombarded with text messages asking similar questions. “Have you seen this?” “Are you OK with this?” “What happened?” Hours earlier, team general manager Connie May tweeted out a photo of the team’s players lined up for the national anthem.

May tagged President Donald Trump in the tweet, making sure to let him know the picture featured, “Everyone respecting the FLAG!” The tweet was eventually deleted.

The players — many of whom will represent the United States in the Tokyo Olympics next year — were furious. More

  2. My late wife was a catcher on a very good Women’s softball team for many years who went to the Women’s national softball championships in Houston between 2005 and 2010. There is no way that they would’ve even thought about kneeling for the national anthem back then. I was like Charlie Brown married to a real life very athletic Peppermint Patty which was her nickname when she played softball. But we complemented each other very well being the opposite in temperament and I had a good marriage to her. And she could hit the ball like there was no tomorrow, my son has her type A no holds barred mentality.

    I have news for you second rate athletes, who the majority of people wouldn’t pay a dime to watch (unless you played in lingerie):

    YOU DON’T OWN THE CLUB OR THE LEAGUE. You have no say so in what the league and it’s owners decide to support. You are their contractual employees. If you don’t like your employer’s politics or policies, GTFOO Dodge! There is plenty of talent to fill your worthless, meaningless places.

    Nascar is in a rain delay and the cars are stopped and covered on pit row….Bubba Wallace started 22nd and stands a good chance of not losing any track positions during this delay…..

  14. Practice makes perfect! They start out before every game in the locker room on their knees practicing their stance and exercising their mouths which will enable them to earn enough money to allow them to play with a big round ball!

I’m with “This Texan” above who doesn’t want them representing my country in the Olympics.

  20. How many times must it be said – keep politics out of sports – yet when money is involved so is identity politics – so don’t fund them and “boy”cott them.

    Used to umpire USSA women’s and girls games (at college and HS levels) and believe me they were anything but lady like.
