3. This is not a new thing, the Soviet Union used to require the same thing for most of its cities.

   A while back, haven’t looked in a long time, Russia still required residence permits to live in the cities (don’t know about the rural areas) and to go to a city you didn’t have residency in for any length of time and stay there required a residency permit.

   FWIW, I think that was mainly because of shortages of housing, the surveillance and control aspect being secondary to it.

13. Nobody in their right mind would live there or visit. New York City is one of the filthiest places in America. Quite likely why the virus spread so fast. I visited Manhattan, even being a farm boy, it grossed me out. I made it 1/2 block in sandals before going back and putting shoes on. Pigeon shit speed bumps under all the traffic lights. All the buildings, slime covered as high as people can reach. Trash, people peeing in the alleys, homeless beggars, and smells like anus 24/7. Even the hotel, the Ritz, was nasty.
