John Tyler still had a living grandson. He just passed away.
Grandson Of 10th President John Tyler Dies At 95.
According to his obituary, Lyon Gardiner Tyler Jr., died Sept. 26 in Franklin, Tennessee, 175 years after his grandfather left office. He was the son of Lyon Gardiner Tyler Sr., who was born in 1853 when his father, who was born in 1790, was 62. When Gardiner Jr. was born on Jan. 3, 1925, his father was 71. Both John Tyler and Lyon Gardiner Tyler Sr. remarried much younger women when they were older.
It reminds me of what a young country we are. John Tyler was born 14 years after the Declaration of Independence and his grandson just now died.
It also reminds me just how dangerously the greatest country ever devised by mortals teeters against our enemies, both foreign and domestic. Especially domestic.
My wife’s class met him about 20 years ago when they toured Sherwood Forest Plantation in Charles City County. It boasts the longest frame house in America. They just kept adding on to it.
Them old Tyler boys ain’t shootin’ blanks….
Fathering a child at 72. Before Viagra.
I heard him tell a story one time when he was older, around 2010, where he mentioned that his father had been born just before the war. He was asked ” World War I?” He answered, “No, the Civil War”.
My mother outlived him and she was born in 1923 and just had her 97th birthday. My mother was also born and raised in Tennessee. I teased my mother the other day, and *I told her she outlived Jack LaLanne and she didn’t have to do push ups to do it.
We need a DNA check on this one .
Milk men, pool boys and the Maytag man.
Father at 72?
Most curious.
I’m 72 and it would take a library of porno magazines for me to…you know…stand at attention.
@Mr. Hector Murmansk: In case you haven’t heard, they have this little blue pill…
P.S. – Not that I would know anything about that, but I have a certain friend…
