For all their talk of “neutral platforms,” the Big Shots at Big Tech — Twitter, Facebook and Google — are running a protection racket. They figure they can dictate what Americans get to see and read, and what other media companies must do to reach the public via those platforms.
It’s a clear threat to a healthy democracy — and Congress has noticed. On Wednesday, the Senate launched a hearing to investigate “Big Tech’s bad behavior.”
Center-stage: Twitter’s strong-arm tactics to censor The Post ever since we began reporting on Hunter Biden’s emails. First, it froze our account and banned our stories; then, amid a public backlash, it agreed to unfreeze us — but only if we deleted our original tweets. read more
If Twitter and Google and the rest are going to editorialize and censor and act like traditional publishers, they should be treated like traditional publishers. Congress should repeal Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act of 1996 that says online social media platforms are not legally responsible for what users post.
They have abused this privilege for far too long.

Many of the patents claimed and granted to these twits (Twitter, Facebook, Google…) need to be thrown out. That would stimulate competition in “social media” development.
On second thought, it might be easier to just convince people that “social media” is a waste of their time.
Wait. I guess this is “social media.” Nah. It’s “intellectual media!” 🙂
This is why people that are voting for Trump need to vote a straight GOP ticket from President, to Senate to Congress and any State or Municipal positions. If the GOP takes all three Federal spots they can use the power to end these types of operations and the State and Municipal governments can move to end any contracts, use or presence with or on them.

Blackmail: That is exactly what it is! Treat them accordingly!
scr_north YES!
I have been telling people that.
I had a person tell me they were just going to vote Trump and that’s all.
I said, “And what happens if all the voters did that and Trump gets stuck with all Democrats for the next 4 years?”
Oh, yeah, I didn’t think of that.
VietVet. If they repeal section 230 they could legally kick anyone for any reason. What they need to do is reform section 230 so that when they violate the terms of section 230 they lose the legal protections and can be sued by the public for breach of contract.
The only reason they are able to act this way is because the government allows social media special protections under section 230 that protects against lawsuits for breach of contract. Take away special protections from lawsuits they will be forced to be a neutral platform or face legal consequences, They would have to comply or they will be finished.
