The Wrap

Monday that it had acquired Bob Dylan’s entire catalog of songs in a deal that the New York Times estimated to be worth north of $300 million.

  1. Didn’t the NYT lay-off a bunch of so-called workers in the last few years? Where did the get the money? If I were one of them, I’d be pissed. Postal pissed.
BTW, his songs aren’t worth $0.30 cents let alone $300,000,000…

  2. Dylan already sold his archives to a museum in Tulsa, OK for an estimated $15-20 Million. So the catalog for $300 M is icing on the cake. People like David Geffen made huge money from the entertainment business went and got a med school named after them (UCLA now Geffen School of Medicine). So Bob Dylan is small potatoes in this realm. He seems more of a pragmatist though and got his original notes preserved and then a nice payout (no doubt a lot less than he has already made up to now) for his work.

  3. Molon, yeah but Tiny Tim was unique for a year, at best. Bob Dylan has been unique for 60 years. And Dylan wrote his own songs, while Tiny Tiny is only known for massacring someone else’s work. Different strokes for different folks.

  4. Saw him live twice, both shows sucked. That said, “Blood on the Tracks” is a fantastic album. Good for him on making a boatload of money, I would do the same if given the chance

  5. I paid to see Dylan in an upscale theater.
I try to see these artists before they’re gone.
His voice was like mine when I get hit with a cold, or maybe allergies.
    Not much singing involved.
    But I saw him.

  6. Dylan actually could sing, just like Picasso actually could paint.

They went with the public. I don’t see anything wrong with that.

I pleased myself (no off-color comments needed 🙂 ) and nobody cared, and I never made a dime doing music.

  7. Can’t take it with you, Bobby.
Another pop culture contributor to the destruction of Western Civilization trying to cash in before it’s too late.
    What a freakin’ idiot.

  8. Maybe he is looking at the bigger picture.
With the current political instability in the USA.
Coupled with Massive foretold TAX increases, IF Acting President Harris & the socialists take office.

I could see CASHING OUT and finding a TAX SHELTER UTOPIA is in order. Because Duluth, Minnesota is already far from that concept.

Plus he could be setting up a trust fund for Ex’s and 6 kids.

NOTE: US has 70 year Copyright laws and some of his early songs 1962+ only have maybe 12 years of coverage. Plus He even has works dating back to 1950’s with less than 5 years left on them

  9. No one turns a lyric like Bob does.
If only he could sing worth a shit. Voice doesn’t seem to be mellowing over the years like Knopfler’s has.
Best album, Blood on The Tracks.
    Funniest album?
Nashville Skyline, where he and none other than Johnny Cash perform a duet – priceless!
