Creepy Song From the 70s Made Even Creepier

I never really paid attention to the lyrics of the Gilbert O’Sullivan song from the early 70s, “Clair.” Anthony Cumia and Dave Landau remembered the song and updated the lyrics for today’s active style pedophile. Warning: really, really offensive Watch

  1. MrsRadioMattM had never heard Claire before. I played it from YouTube after we watched that video. Her reaction was along the lines of WTF, although she hated Gilbert O’Sullivan anyway. That just reenforced it.

MRMM had never hear Last Kiss before, either.

I was cracking up when they were talking about oldies. When I was young, oldies were songs that at best I had a vague memory of. Then I heard “Pretty Woman” on an oldies station. I was shocked! Oldies stations weren’t supposed to play songs that I remembered. Then oldies stations started playing songs that I played on the radio as hits. That really hurt.

My mother really hated “This Girl Is A Woman Now.” She knew that Gary Puckett was not singing about how she filled out her own income tax return for the first time.

  2. I guess people pay more attention than I do.
That, and I’ve never deciphered the lyrics to any song I’ve ever heard.
Could be a hearing thing – or it could be a GAF thing – not sure.

  3. I’m no prude by that podcast was a little over-the-top.

Clair was the 3-year-old daughter of O’Sullivan’s manager, Gordon Mills. Gilbert often babysat her and wrote about the joy that comes from spending time with “a delightful little girl.”

O’Sullivan said the song was written as a compliment to Clair’s parents. The little girl giggling at the end of the song is the real 3-year-old Clair Mills.

  4. Isn’t Gilbert O’Sullivan the guy who missed his set for the Miss World or the Miss Universe pageant because he was busy getting hammered? Maybe his songs are nasty, but his actions are heroic.

  5. “If I could fly, I’d pick you up. I’d take you into the night where the age of consent is a few years younger than it is in this state.”

“Me, when I was sixteen and listening to this song – “Cool, I only have to wait 14 more years to have a 16 year old girlfriend of my own.”

“Everytime I see this video, I imagine the dad walking into his daughter’s room and saying “Hey Becky, that weird flat-chested girl came to see you again.”

“They should’ve cast a younger guy (like 19-21) to play the boyfriend. Having Benny do it himself when he was 34 and looked like a 50 year old transgender meth addict made it a million times creepier.”

“He looks like he’s old enough to be her mother!”

LOL! First thing I said to Matt when I saw that video was, “looks like a trigender woman!”
