Happy National Beer Day! – IOTW Report

Happy National Beer Day!

OK, it’s actually on April 7th and this is only the 6th.
But, it’s Joe6pak’s birthday!
So, let’s combine both days and wish a Happy Beerday to Joe6pak!

Holidays Calendar:

National Beer Day is a holiday which is celebrated in the United States on April 7th. This day was established to not only honor the history of beer but also to celebrate the Cullen–Harrison Act – an act which allowed people to buy, sell and drink beer that had 4% alcohol by volume and was signed by FDR in 1933. The day in which it went into effect, over a million and a half barrels of beer were sold. Other countries which celebrate a National Beer Day include Iceland (March 1st) and the United Kingdom (June 15th).

In 1919, the Volstead Act became law and by 1920, the entire United States was subject to Prohibition. This meant that beer, wine and grain liquors had all become illegal. While Prohibition wouldn’t become appealed until December 5th, 1933, U.S citizens received an early break 8 months earlier when Frankin D. Roosevelt signed the Cullen-Harrison act on April 7th, 1933. After he signed the bill, FDR is reported to have said, “I think this would be a good time for a beer.” And many Americans agreed with him because huge groups of people flooded breweries and taverns all over the country. In fact, by the end of that day, over1.5 million gallons of beer ended up being sold. Beer has been enjoyed by Americans ever since.

However, while it became legal to buy, sell and consume beer in 1933, what isn’t clear is why it took 76 years for the day to be marked by a holiday. Yet, that is exactly what happened. It wasn’t until 2009 that National Beer Day was dreamed up by Justin Smith and his friend Mike Connolly. more here

  1. How is it, on the day it became LEGAL to sell beer, 1.5 million barrels were served? Who was making beer in those quantities before it was legal to sell? It’s almost like people weren’t really following the law. But that can’t possibly be can it? happy birthday Joe6!

Guinness is a officially a “Stout” (type of beer)
Another very similar stout is Murphy’s Irish Stout.

It goes well with as a drink on it’s own but was never really designed for guzzling with with 2 pounds of wings.
Very odd taste, oatmeal, watery, filling and light with a lower Alcohol content that the usual 5%.

Sooo, Happy Birthday to all April people, especially today for Joe6 and KCIR.

And MJ, I do like Guinness but then again I do like porters and stouts, but the comments get old…”who scooped that out of the shitter?”, “drinking motor oil again?”, “bet that tastes like ass.”…etc, etc.

Always remember Ben Franklin’s sage advice, “Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.”
