What to think about things like this? No information on when they think the children were buried. All at once or over years/decades? Was it in the mid 1800’s or nearer to modern times? It is too easy to apply current morals to the past. We just don’t know why this happened and with today’s media, we never will.
The important take away is it was caused by “Christian” schools. That’s what they want people to hear. Not “Catholic”, but “Christian”. “Christian bad”.
They need to use that ground-penetrating radar at every single former Indian boarding school in both the US and Canada. I doubt this is an isolated occurrence, unfortunately.
If I remember correctly from the Yahoo news piece on this, the school was in business for over 50 years, and had over 150,000 children go through. That’s a death rate if 0.14%. What is a “normal” death rate for indigenous children of that age group for that period of time? The implication of the article is that these kids died from abuse, and they may have, but there is no evidence to support that . And yes, this is another attack on the Church.

But just watch a Canadian TV show where the subject of slavery in the US comes up. They are examples of sanctimonious preening.
It is very sad but I agree with “efemdy” – there is a lack of information. People at the time of these schools thought they were a good idea but sadly, there is always abuses between the administration and powerless children – leading to a lot of “Nurse Ratcheds”. People also forget that many white children died in the early 1900’s(before the age of 5) from , chickenpox, measles, typhoid fever, dysentery. Situation is still very sad and needs to be investigated properly.
I Posted this because I wondered if anyone knew what happened. Sucks that we don’t.
