Chuck Schumer Co-sponsors Bill To Decriminalize Weed

Criminal and Justice News

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York is co-sponsoring federal marijuana legalization in what would be a major step in the unwinding of the decades-old war on drugs, the New York Times reports. The draft of his Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act would remove marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act and begin regulating and taxing it through federal rules to govern an industry that is now legal for recreational use under state law in 18 states but has been hamstrung by the federal-state disconnect.

Schumer’s bill also would expunge nonviolent marijuana-related arrests and convictions from federal records and funnel new tax dollars to restorative justice programs intended to lift up communities harmed by years of marijuana enforcement. Schumer’s co-sponsors are Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR), the chairman of the Finance Committee.

  1. “…begin regulating and taxing it through federal rules to govern an industry…”
yeah, an ‘industry’ that all his pals are invested in. And they want to monopolize it, tho their benefit.
It is a weed. Legalize it and keep government out of it.
It does make you stupid. If it hasn’t, it will.
In Vermont, it is legal. It can be grown, possessed and given to friends, but it is not legal to sell it.
They just want to legalize it so they can make money while they dumb/numb people. And they like to work with dumb people- they’re easier to manipulate.

  2. I figured it was just a matter of time before Democrats would tax marijuana.
Union pot jobs will be on the hot list of government approved labor now.
Gotta keep that slush fund flowing.

  3. I read somewhere Colorado is failing with their Pot taxes. It seems to be that the black-market sales are flourishing and the state is missing out on big tax money.

Face it, pot is a weed and easy to grow. High potency seeds are easily available.

  4. That sounds like a shit idea.

When I lived in Waldorf I knew of a case where two teenagers went to prison for five years a piece for smoking grass in a car. And I know the cops who busted them were weed smokers, themselves.

Five years for pot is egregious. The judge just turned two teenagers into lifelong felons for the sake of some skunk. Maybe it was because they were in a vehicle. I don’t know, but I’d rather share the highways with pot-heads than cellular telephone users.

  5. Drunks and cell’ ‘phone idiots equally suck, for sure, at least as far as their destructive abilities. You could tell in the old days when the drunks came out with a pretty fine accuracy. Cellular Telephone Idiots are everywhere, all the time.

  6. The pot-head is the old guy in the Cowboy hat singing, “I got rice cooking in the microwave…”, and doing 50 in the 60 zone.

    He’s enraging, but relatively harmless.

  7. @Anon – yes, Colorado is failing because of TABOR. They cannot implement a tax without a public vote. However, with more blue state dems coming here, it will not be long.
I am seriously thinking about moving to a nearby state that isn’t blue (Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, etc.)

  8. When I got off the train today I drove past a pot shop. Like there was any chance whatsoever to avoid that, they are thicker than latte stands here. So it was apparent the guy who had just pulled out was smoking pot, I could smell it from inside my vehicle with the windows rolled up and the air conditioner running.

  9. MO is full of pot places, too.

You just go on a list, man. On a fucking Government list.

They ask me every time when I go to Farm And Home if I am tax exempt.

    “No, I’m not.”

  10. They call it dope for a reason, although I think it’s short for dopamine, the drug in your brain that makes you feel good but act stupidly.

Nice of Sen. Schemer to be thinking of keeping millions of people happy (for a short time) so they won’t wise-up to where Schemer and his mob is leading us.

  11. Think SOMA and the novel Brave New World, that’s what it will be like if the Feds legalize pot. I prefer to have a clear head and won’t participate in turning America into an Idiocracy. I’ve been there, done that back in the 70’s and will not become a willing stoner ever again. The real outlaws in the future will be the non stoners who refuse to become like a bunch of idiot sheep smoking govt. endorsed dope.

“Union pot jobs will be on the hot list of government approved labor now.”

Probably why they’re stocking up on illegals. They will give the Govt ID’s and let them vote.

  13. @Geoff

That’s close to my own story. The first few times were fun, but after that all I would do is sit in a corner and think crazy thoughts about being Napoleon or Caesar. Actually, I can’t remember what I thought about. This was in the late 60’s in the LA area, when Rock & Roll and marijuana were kings. Eventually, smoking weed made me feel pretty awful, some dopers I knew blamed me, not the dope. I guess I didn’t have a doper’s brain type. And I am so damned glad I got no further involved in it. Last time I smoked a joint was 1977, in a Provincial Park on the Canadian side of Lake Huron, and after that I began to turn away from leftist politics.

I do not think conservatism and dope are compatible.

  14. Brad: “How many times can Jew Schumer sell his soul. Gotta be dirt cheap by now….”

Schumer being born a Jew has nothing to do with it. He is as dangerous to the rest of Jewry (those with their heads screwed on ‘right’) as any Nazi ever was.

  15. Feds never had the right to make it illegal.
Idiots in NE just killed a bill to have medical weed.
Stuck in a time warp MOFO’s. Weed helps kids with VACCINE injuries and seizures and they can’t have it why? It helps with chronic pain and I can’t have it why? But mr operation warp speed death jabs are going to be mandatory. I hate this world.
