Thieves!
Thanks, Claudia! Always a joy.
Oh, Rocky.
Squirrels are very creative critters when it comes to stealing the bird food. I don’t know if a squirrel-proof bird feeder has ever been designed.
Thanks for the pics and good morning to all.
Stirrin, I watched a show many years ago about a lady in England who designed a backyard obstacle course for the squirrels. She got tired of them raiding the bird feeders, that she decided she should at least be entertained. As she added more and more obstacles, they took time to learn. But once they got it, they taught it to the other squirrels. Crafty little devils!

“I don’t know if a squirrel-proof bird feeder has ever been designed.”
This kind comes pretty close. The wife won’t get one though because they’re a) very expensive, b) need power, c) “cruel”, and d) the squirrels get wise eventually then they quit providing cheap laughs and YT videos.
She soaps the pole instead. You can see how effective THAT is above…

Thank you for posting these, Lady C, so these thieves can be brought to justice. Anyone seeing one of these suspects should call their local game warden immediately, so they can be laughed at and rudely told to get off a line meant for important government business by someone paid in tax dollars. It’s like calling the police on a mental in CA or on a looter in WA in terms of response, but the perps are MUCH fluffier and more amusing so I guess that makes it OK…
SNS, that is one tenacious squirrel. I wonder if his name is Dizzy. That could be a new carnival ride called Tilt a squirrel.
And I bet you thought I couldn’t find a fox picture….

Oh, Jethro! I can always count on you! – Claudia
C and SNS – When I was a kid we had birdfeeder similar to the red one in pic #3. It hung from a tree branch and of course the squirrels just slid down the wire to the canister and chowed down.
After doing a little research my parents found a metal disc similar to a record album. which the wire was threaded through and it hung/balanced on the feeder.
Initially when the squirrels slid down the wire and tried to step on the disc to get to the feeder they kept sliding off and falling to the ground. It didn’t take them long to figure out how to maintain their balance on the disc and actually use it to tip themselves onto the feeder. God has a way of feeding his creatures – some better than others.

Bullwinkle is “Hey Rocky!”
SNS – I just saw your video – that was freaking hilarious! And to Geoff’s comment I found the theme song for ol’ Dizzy.

Now all we need is the clip from The Sandlot when the boys were on the Tilt a Whirl after chewing tobacco and getting sick and barfing all over everything.
This guy takes his squirrels seriously. He thought up this Backyard Squirrel Maze. I actually love squirrels and I feed them peanuts. One more of God’s creatures that make us laugh….this is one of them.

We’ve had pretty good luck here with simple squirrel baffles, but get the metal ones.
Out east the squirrels are on a different level. If they didn’t chew through the plastic baffles then they’d just stand jump past them. They really were unstoppable, made these mid-west squirrels look like chubby amateurs.
Try to beat this one:

And don’t whine about this being cruel. The squirrel kept coming back again and again.
years ago there was a vid of somebody’s skeet launcher used as a squirrel feeder.
Afternoon everyone. It’s ‘raining cats and dogs’ for Critter Sunday. So, very appropriate!
C – I believe squirrels are in the top ten of intelligent animals.
Have a great safe and strong week, chins up.
We bought a “Droll Yankee” squirrel-proof bird feeder that spun around and discharged the squirrels. The wee bastards learned to hang by their feet from the top (it had a convenient wire hanger) and eat the seeds! My wife called it our “bird-proof squirrel feeder.”
