Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of blood-testing startup Theranos, plans to defend herself at her federal fraud trial starting next week by arguing that her ex-boyfriend, who was an executive at the company, emotionally and sexually abused her, impairing her state of mind at the time of the alleged crimes, according to newly unsealed legal filings in her case.

I’ve been following this story since its inception since it all happened in my neck of the woods. For those that don’t know the “Theranos” story, absolutely fascinating, both in its claims and in the gullibility of the medical industry (thanks in no small part to Obama peddling the lies)to accept at face value a concept, an innovation that too many people wanted to believe.
Holmes was an absolute rock star in the tech community. Personally I think her defense is brilliant; she was the naive sweet newcomer who was too trusting of the experienced tech giant Balwani. The Svengali tag is apt and will probably work, after-all, in our current society nobody wants to see a new mom go to jail for something a man made her do.

Naive? Sorry, but a woman does not start up a business, raise millions of dollars in capital without having a some street smarts about her. Maybe Balwani took advantage of her, but not to the extent of fraud that took place with this company.
I admit, there is a lot I don’t know about this case, but the defense strategy is pushing the boundries of common sense.

I have not heard of this particular kind of abuse before. Maybe she’s just got a sore ass. Or, if they never got intimate, “non-intimate partner abuse”.
They could be more specific, like “Overworked Tongue Syndrome”, or “Overstretched Vagina Syndrome” or “Deep Throat Syndrome”.

This wasn’t just “unproven technology”, it was fraud, everybody at the company knew those little boxes couldn’t do what was promised.
Apparently she was a master at keeping the scientists from talking to the engineers from talking to the sales people. Nobody knew what the person next to them was working on, all by design from Holmes.

I’ve known and worked with a woman EXACTLY like Holmes. Terribly intelligent and even more terribly mentally deranged. In addition to Holmes’ fake voice, she was probably the one who played with a whip and ignored Sunny’s safe word. I pray she does not get away with one more fraud in court. She does it so well, after all.
