Marine Corps celebrates 246th birthday

For those who have earned the title of Marine, Nov. 10 is celebrated as if it was their own birthday.

PHILADELPHIA — The United States Marine Corps celebrates its 246th birthday on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2021.

In 1775, the Corps was born out of a Philadelphia tavern during the American Revolutionary War.

For those who have earned the title of Marine, Nov. 10 is celebrated as if it was their own birthday, serving as a “yearly reminder of the brave spirit that has compelled young men and women to defend our nation and its interests for more than two centuries,” according to Marines.com.

  3. I have to say that when they announced “Platoon 1026, dismissed” at the very end of boot camp I had a real shiver roll through my body. A very intense period of my life was over.
The most fun I had in the USMC was my year in Okinawa. A beautiful exotic tropical isle with the clearest blue waters.

  4. My dad was a Marine. He joined at the age of seventeen in February of 1945. He was stationed on Midway Island where he worked on Corsair fighters with VMF-322. He was my hero. He was a good man.

  6. Dad was a WWII Pacific Marine. He too was my Hero, I went to one of his Marine reunions, walked away having met many more heroes. In ’69, twelve days after HS Graduation, I entered the Marine Corps Graduated Platoon 1112, one of the proudest days of my life. One year later, VN for 22 months.
Mary Jane, thanks for posting the Marine Corps Birthday.
