‘I will not be a figurehead for corruption’: Mayor hands over shock resignation during commission meeting

LET: OPA-LOCKA, FL – The City of Opa-Locka is going through some inner turmoil as the former Mayor abruptly resigned on November 10th and the new Mayor has vowed to root out corruption.

Former Opa-Locka Mayor, Matthew Pigatt, resigned during a commission meeting alluding that the corruption in the city was so bad that he had no choice but to resign.

While he did not go into specifics regarding his allegations, in a prepared statement, he said:

“Accept this as my resignation from the position of mayor of the city of Opa-Locka. I will not be a figurehead for corruption…Those who stand up for what is right do not last long in this system. Everything will be shared when it will do the most good.” more

  1. Any crime committed here should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Having said that anything these people have done pales in comparison to two biggest grifters in Government. Pelosi and Feinstein. They’ve manipulated Gov to make themselves wealthy. The appropriate punishment is a firing squad.

  2. He just put a major target on his back. Chances are he’ll have a bad accident before there are any meaningful arrests for corruption in his shithole town. And I apologize for calling it a shithole town, I hope there are a majority of citizens that desire a first class community.

  3. I lived in Dade County for a total of 8 years while working for a federal agency. In my job, I got to know a few local officials who worked in smaller towns north of Miami Beach where I worked. Mismanagement and corruption is a way of life throughout Dade County, the same as most third world countries. Being elected to local office often led to prison time. It’s an interesting place to visit, but you wouldn’t want to live there.
