John Cleese:
“I am blacklisting myself before someone else does.”
Legendary actor John Cleese has long spoken about his disdain for cancel culture. Now, he’s walking the talk and canceling himself, proving a solid point about selective silencing.
Recently, a Cambridge University debating society banned future appearances by art historian Andrew Graham-Dixon after he impersonated Adolf Hitler to make a point about whether or not “good taste” exists. The Cambridge Union President Keir Bradwell addressed the issue online, saying Graham-Dixon offended members.
“We will create a blacklist of speakers never to be invited back, and we will share it with other unions too. Andrew will be on that list,” Bradwell said.
Cleese, a Cambridge alumnus, was due to appear at the university as part of his Cancel Me documentary series, in which he interviews victims of cancel culture. He said he pulled out because he’d impersonated Hitler earlier in his career.
“I was looking forward to talking to students at the Cambridge Union this Friday, but I hear that someone there has been blacklisted for doing an impersonation of Hitler,” Cleese said. “I regret that I did the same on a Monty Python show, so I am blacklisting myself before someone else does.”
Later, Bradwell claimed he misspoke and said future guests “may say what they wish in our chamber.” But not before Cleese took to social media again to say, “I apologise to anyone at Cambridge who was hoping to talk with me, but perhaps some of you can find a venue where woke rules do not apply.”

Basil Fawlty hardest hit. Along with most or all of Monty Python’s irreverent but funny as hell skits and movies. “Your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries.” Cancel culture sucks, it has taken the humor out of humor and comedy and made it forbidden because someone might actually laugh at the human comedy. And the progtards can’t can’t have anyone laughing unless it’s their vile, wicked, obscene type of of so called humor. Would the BBC even allow Monty Python to be aired today? Probably not!
Cleese is pretty liberal, so are Ricky Gervais and Dave Chappelle. But they are all sticking their necks out and standing up against cancel culture and I certainly appreciate that.
The cancel culture tards can’t see their own hypocrisy that they are behaving like hitler. I bet they secretly admire him.
He should fart in Cambridge’s general direction.
The so-called Woke and Cancel Culture is going the way of The Race Card. Cleese is getting out in front and making it look like a parade. He’s very clever and it’s right in line with his style of humor. Progressives are being mocked bigly and it’s disappointing they don’t have a funny bone with which to appreciate it.
New twist on an old theme? Perhaps the “Ministry of Silly WOKES” skit.

I don’t often agree with Cleese’s politics but he is an intelligent man.
Cambridge is proving intself to be as unworthy as all the rest of the so-called institutions of higher ‘education’ (!)

I always liked the lethal joke the most. But it would probably be lost on the progtards since they have no sense of humor in any language. But it would be worth a try.

Being constantly irritated, annoyed, angry and outraged by imagined slights or offenses is the very foundation of narcissistic personality disorder. Believing yourself to be more virtuous and able to decide for others what is “best” for them, is another brick in that wall.
