Just out of curiosity — after the post about retailers wanting to curb online sales of looted luxuries — I pulled up Craigslist/San Francisco. In the Dec 9, 10, 11 timeframe there are oodles of new Louis Vuitton goods, including a pair of new LV Air Jordan1’s (for the incredible price of only $120.). There were handbags that usually go for $2,500++ for less than a third of that amount. The background for some of the pictures of them were very curious indeed. All very odd, naturally. Low priced for “quick sale.”
Usually high end designer goods, especially handbags, are tagged with a unique number, so tracking down stolen property should be easy.
If those watches were so valuable, why wasn’t the display case made out of Lexan? The guy’s an idiot.
I never paid more than 250 a watch… but it is a GG-W-113 from my birth year. An investment. A slow investment.

The owner said his guys were armed and if the perp had raised his weapon they would have fired. The perp was brandishing his weapon, his partner was bashing the display cases with what could be a deadly weapon. If they were armed they should have put these guys lights out, right then and there!

Some buyer may take one in for service some day and find out it was stolen if he didn’t know already.

Loco — I was very surprised, actually, to see these things still listed 2-3 days later than posted. Perhaps anyone who is going to plunk down $500+ for new LV stuff out of SF probably knows it’s stolen.
Years ago in Houston, there was a rash of store robberies where the clerks would be marched into the cooler and shot to death after the cash was taken. Store owners acted with the blessing of the HPD and hired men with riot shotguns that hid behind two-way glass panels. When the clerk was told to walk to the cooler, the men would blast the perp into kingdom come at close range. After a few of these, the murders stopped.
