Scientists Claim They May Have Discovered the Cause of Alzheimer’s

The Hill-

Researchers in California focused on studying a protein called tau and how it’s linked to brain buildup, a key indicator doctors look for when diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease.

  • Researchers at the University of California-Riverside published results of a study that analyzed donated brain samples.
  • They focused on the form of tau proteins, which can be either right-handed or left-handed.
  • Researchers discovered that those who had a “different handed” form of tau proteins along with brain plaque and tangles also had dementia.

Scientists in California tried to study Alzheimer’s disease from a different perspective and the results may have led them to the cause of the disease.

Researchers at the University of California- Riverside (UCR) recently published results from a study that looked at a protein called tau. By studying the different forms tau proteins take, researchers discovered the difference between people who developed dementia and those who didn’t.

The tau protein was critical for researchers because they wanted to understand what the protein could reveal about the mechanism behind plaques and tangles, two critical indicators doctors look for when diagnosing people with Alzheimer’s.

  1. I have a relative who suffers from this terrible disease. I am cautiously optimistic that this will lead to a cure. I hope it happens, but I doubt that the cure will appear before I lose my parent. I still hold out hope and pray that it will happen.

  2. My brother’s wife got early onset at 50. That wonderful woman was barely there until she passed. It was hard to see her in that state after knowing her for so long.

Something I had never heard about it before last month:

“Type 3 diabetes is a controversial name sometimes used to refer to Alzheimer’s disease, a type of progressive dementia. Strong links have been made between the two conditions, most notably that dementia may be triggered by a type of insulin resistance occurring specifically in the brain.”

    True!

Some of us in the family think it brought my brother closer to God because of it. He didn’t believe in God when I was around him last, about 18 years before he died. He never sacrificed anything for another until she was affected. He refused to raise or even have a relationship with his children, for one example. He kept care of her himself and lost everything to do it.

She was a believer, so maybe his love for her helped him over the line.
