  1. “Football players make football plays.” (Attributed to Madden but originated with Chuck Knox. But I’ll always remember Madden quoting it on TV and me falling off the couch.)

    BOOM!

  2. “If you think about it, I’ve never held a job in my life. I went from being an NFL player to a coach to a broadcaster. I haven’t worked a day in my life.”

  3. 2 things made Fox T a big, successful, deal:
    1. Simpsons. – experts said it was dumb putting it against Cosby! Cosby #1 for 3 years before Bart. Bart dropped it to #10 in year 1 and #5o in year 2.

2, Maden football. Again “the experts” said Fox grossly overpaid for NFL
    T. By Oct John an Pat were the biggest draw for NFL and Fox was king of Sunday ratings!

  4. I remember first hearing about Turducken on Monday Night Football while he ripped one apart with his hands and stuffed it in his face. Priceless.

    He also hated to fly.

Football was never the same when he retired from commentary.

    Cheers John!

  5. Seems like there is a lot of dying going on lately. I’ve read a couple of Marcinko’s books. “The Rogue Warrior”, I read books like that and realize I don’t know where guys like that come from. There is a man that deserves to RIP!
