Years ago at an OTC bar in college when I was broke I bet on a 99-1 horse called Devil’s Play Thing and he won by a lot. I would have loved to be in a crowd like this when you make that kind of once in a lifetime bet that pays off.
(Now that everyone got around the track without incident I can watch the rerun of the race. I love horse racing but hate it too-it stresses me out!)
Ya never want to be a favorite on Derby day. It’s an almost guaranteed loss (unless you are Secretariat)!
From alternate to running in the rear for 3/4 of the race to winning by almost the whole body length! Awesome race.

(greatest race I ever saw was Secretariat at the Belmont … never saw a horse go so fast in a mile & a half … won by 31 lengths; he was racing himself … stunning!)

I have been to at least 15.
Used to go to the Infield when I was younger.
Craziest party ever.
However The Grandstands are where it’s at for some drunken refinement.
It’s a fun time leading up to it as well.
Go the week before and you can run the half or full marathon that passes through the Infield.
It’s a good marathon to run.
Now crosses over to Indiana for a portion of the route.
Or do Tour de Lou bike ride of 100K.
