“Forever in our hearts.

Until we meet again.

Cherished memories.

Known as.

Our son, brother.

Father, Papa, Uncle.

Friend & cousin,” reads the headstone, which marks Steven Owens’ grave at Powers-Warren Cemetery in Runnells, Iowa, which is about 20 miles southeast of Des Moines.

  1. UPWARDLY BOUND, TO THE
    PROMISED LAND

    YOU WERE A TREMENDOUS FRIEND
    OMNIPRESENT ALWAYS
    UNCORRUPTED BY THE WORLD
    RATIONAL AND THOUGHTFUL
    SENSIBLE AND CHARITABLE

  2. Learning to live and love
    Enriches the honest man
    And he comes to
    Value experiences of
    Every peaceful kind.
    Mirth is a shield against
    Evil temptations
    And influences,
    Leaving one free to fly
    On softly sighing wings,
    Never to suffer
    Earth’s indignities.

Can you shed any light on those 10,000 cows that died in Kansas. Has it been over 100 degrees out there? Seems pretty weird. Does Bill Gates own that feed lot?

  4. Yep Brad, 105 last Monday. !00+ for the next 5 days, but I’m thinking that cow death toll goes back to the fires about a month or so ago….10,000 acres just north of me and 20,000 acres a bit farther south and east….A local farmer/rancher has to replace over 50 miles of fencing and cross fencing. They’ve hired 5 crews that will work for a couple of months. Their herd was decimated….tough way to smoke a brisket or 500 briskets…..One guy that burned during a burn ban was responsible. Rumor has it he will do some prison time and be bankrupt forever….

  5. I want the cheesy kid joke put on my tombstone, “What did the elephant say to the naked man? That’s cute but how do you breathe thru it”, just so people who walk by my tombstone would get a good laugh. But I doubt that they would approve it. My oldest daughter thinks this is one of the stupidest dad jokes ever. And if it was in a graveyard full of dead Pentecostals, I’d like to have on my tombstone, “Why don’t cannibals like Pentecostals? Because they keep throwing up their hands.”
