Internal Revenue Service Commissioner Charles Rettig has asked the Treasury Department’s inspector general to investigate the tax audits of former FBI Director James Comey and former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, The New York Times reports.
The Times on Wednesday reported that Comey and McCabe faced intensive IRS audits while Donald Trump was president. The tax agency said people are picked at random for the rare audit program.
“The IRS has referred the matter to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration for review. IRS Commissioner Rettig personally reached out to TIGTA after receiving a press inquiry,” the IRS said in a statement.
McCabe on Thursday told CNN he thinks “referring it to the IG is the right step, but let’s see if the IG moves on it and then makes their findings public.”
So no investigation into IRS audits of conservatives (the list is long) but only of the audits of democrats. This is all about going after Trump (again).

…and, as long as his enemies are and remain the people of the United States, they are all too happy to comply.
I don’t think Joek weaponized them; they were already doing all of that. Certainly from 0bama days if not earlier, resisting Trump every day of his presidency, and carrying on into the current administration.
Chances of an IRS audit 1 in 30 thousands. Chances of 2 top officials getting an audit at the same time, 1 in a million. Should be fired!

They both came up clean & both no longer work in government. Political motivated audits. IRS head should be fired.
Ohhh, I get it. An audit of a liberal republicrat is considered rare, while an audit of a conservative is considered SOP. No double standard here, just DC business as usual.
