…in 1969 (no surprise), the domestic terrorist organization Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) organized what was called the “Venceremos Brigade”, which were asshole hippie Communist American college students without a clue who went WILLINGLY to Cuba to protest the blocade (that a DEMOCRAT President imposed) by helping Castro get his sugar cane harvest in. Castro was happy for the political statement, and happier still that he had all these idiot young bodies to give machetes to with no training and order into the cane fields to make snakes and rats mad while severely injuring themselves and each other. This went about as well as you’d expect a harvest by privileged lefty White young people to go, but Castro got his propaganda, at least SOME sugar cane that wasn’t too bloody or mangled to use, and the leftist kids being leftist they learned NOTHING, and it continues to this day.

Had to tolerate Bob the commie, from Portland, at the pool. He was obnoxious but there were usually enough leftist magnets around that he left me alone. On one of his rants he was bragging about he and his wife going on a two week vacation to Cuba. They left in a panic, headed back to Portland because she came down with late stage cancer. Had to ask his pals why he cancelled his vacation to Cuba, where they have the best health care in the world.
