Feds Considering a Ban on Gas Stoves

Newser-

On the heels of a damning report that gas stoves are responsible for 13% of child asthma cases in the US comes news that a federal agency is considering banning the appliances. “Products that can’t be made safe can be banned,” a commissioner for the Consumer Product Safety Commission tells Bloomberg. He says “any option is on the table” for the “hidden hazard” of gas stoves, found in more than a third of homes in the nation. As CNN reports, the CPSC has been considering making a move on the appliances for months; the same agency commissioner in October recommended the safety agency collect public comments on the matter.

Now, he tells Bloomberg, that public comment period is expected to be opened. If they are not banned, there are other steps that can be taken, including setting standards on the emissions from them. Without proper ventilation, gas stoves can cause levels of nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide, and fine particulate matter to a concentration declared unsafe by the Environmental Protection Agency, and the appliances have been linked to other respiratory ailments beyond asthma as well. The CPSC says a “lengthy process” will be involved before any regulatory action is taken.

  1. I grew up with gas stoves, have only had gas stoves with the exception of 6 months once when we were renting a house while remodeling our house my entire adult life. For the majority of those years didn’t have a vent-a-hood. Nobody ever had respiratory problems.
My 6 months of cooking on that electric stove convinced me I would never own an electric stove. So they can go to hell.

  2. Also three times in my life when we had ice storms that knocked our electric out, our stoves are how we kept our house warm and the pipes from freezing.
So again they can go to hell.

  3. Funny. I forgot who I voted for commissioner of the consumer product safety commission. Or anyone at EPA. Oh wait. I didn’t have a say in the matter.

You people can kindly go fuck yourselves in a nasal cavity with rifle cleaning equipment.

But Biden is more than happy to export our natural gas to Europe.
    God he hates us.

  4. Electric stoves suck. Whenever I lose power I can still cook on my gas stovetop. They already have pretty much made the oven unusable due to the elimination of pilot lights but can still light the upper burners with a match.

  5. Screw those bastards, this is nothing more than one of many thousands of distractions from the commie, liberal leftists.

They throw out shit like this to keep US talking, worrying and fidgeting while they continue their ‘behind the scenes’ destruction of America.

  6. As many have said, liberal wannabe tyrants have 2 ways of thinking. Something they like is to be made mandatory, something they dislike is to be banned. It never ends with these assholes. Just enough of them, too many of us. I guarantee that the husk & lot lizard have all of their mush served to them that has been prepared on a gas stove.

  7. If it will save just one pork chop?

They want everything to be electric so that there are more shortages and then raise the cost and also to control us. Where do they think it comes from the electric fairy?
    Coal, nukey and dams.
It may be a distraction as well but you can bet they are all for it.

  8. The CLEANEST MOST RELIABLE FUEL in the WORLD.

    LET’S BAN IT!

It’s byproducts of combustion are Carbon Dioxide & Water

aka: What Trees Breath and what Trees Drink.

In the 70’s & 80’s Governments were pushing Natty Gas as the CLEAN BURNING, POLLUTION FREE solution to COAL, WOOD, NUKES etc.

SO LETS CHANGE THE SOIENCE (fauci) & the definition of what a pollutant is.

From a commercial HVAC tech for 36 years and counting…

  9. Just bought my parents a brand new 5 burner Frigidaire stove for the basement kitchen last Friday.

Us Italians need 2 kitchens to get the lasagne and Prime Rib ready on time!

  10. I just wrote my congressman, Bob Good, one of the good guys. I recommend that you all do the same. Lift it as is or modify it to your liking, but it’s best to keep it brief if you want it read.

    Here’s what I said.

I’m sorry. I don’t remember voting for any Commissioner of the Consumer Products Safety Commission or anyone at EPA. Oh that’s right. It’s a bureaucratic and appointed commission and I didn’t have a say.
And now they want to dictate that my gas cooktop will be outlawed? All the while exporting our natural gas to other nations for profit.
Biden, et al, have attacked my free speech, freedom of religion, freedom to assemble. They want to take away my right to bear arms.
We’re reaching a tipping point, my friend. They just keep poking us and poking us.
If the events in Brazil were disconcerting they haven’t seen anything yet. January 6 was a day at the park. False flags tried to draw us into conflict. It didn’t happen, mostly.
I know you are a warrior, but this natural gas bullshit had better stop and you need to lead on this.
Once the people can’t feed themselves the environment will change dramatically.

  11. I was going to comment on this earlier. Everyone’s covered my sentiments exactly. I would like to add there’s a certain amount of our unelected bureaucrats that lay awake at night dreaming up ways to make us suffer even more than the Europeans. Case it’s only fair. It’s not right we have all this freedom and success. And damn it, something needs to be done about it. May these people parish first when the shit starts.

  12. I gotta share this joke.
The Legend of the King & Fisherman

The palace meteorologist assured him that there was no chance of rain so, the king and the queen went fishing.

On the way, he met a man with a fishing pole riding on a donkey, and he asked the man if the fish were biting.  The fisherman said, “Your Majesty, you should return to the palace.  In just a short time I expect a huge rainstorm.”

The king replied: “I hold the palace meteorologist in high regard.  He is an educated and experienced professional.  Besides, I pay him very high wages.  He gave me a very different forecast.  I trust him.” So, the king continued on his way.

However, in a short time, torrential rain fell from the sky.  The King and Queen were totally soaked. Furious, the king returned to the palace and gave the order to execute the meteorologist.

Then he summoned the fisherman and offered him the prestigious position of royal forecaster.

The fisherman said, “Your Majesty, I do not know anything about forecasting.  I obtain my information from my donkey.  If I see my donkey’s ears drooping, it means with certainty that it will rain.”

So, the king hired the donkey.

And so began the practice of hiring dumb asses to work in influential positions of government.

And thus, the symbol of the Democrat Party was born.

The practice continues to this day.

  13. Don’t worry…if they ban gas stoves, the government will buy you a nice new electric stove. IF you are one of the preferred minority or economic groups.

Here’s an idea: have the CPSC issue a news release that gas stoves MAY contribute to childhood athsma, and if your child is suffering, consider replacing it.

  14. Amazing that our ancestors cooked with gas & wood fires, smoked Camels, drank rotgut whiskey & Brew 102, ate fatty meat & cholesterol-laden eggs fried in bacon grease, and still lived to be 90.
Frankly, I’m not too worried about how long I live if this government keeps insisting it knows what’s best for me.

  15. Kcir, I’m not Italian, but I still have kids and grandkids who come over for dinner and Sunday lunch. I can’t master the art of cooking for two, so I like that. It means though I need a lot of cooking space, especially holiday dinners, so I have an upright stove/oven, gas with 5 burners. Then I have a 4 burner gas stove top and an electric wall oven. I don’t mind the electric oven, I honestly use it more often than my other oven unless I’m doing lots of baking as it’s quick to throw things in and doesn’t heat the kitchen up.

We don’t have natural gas though, out in the sticks we must fill our 500 gallon propane tank up.

  16. When you wanted to describe when things started going right, we used to use the expression, “Now, you’re cooking with gas!” Only a progressive government and the idiots who elected them can screw things up like this.

  17. “… the appliances have been linked to other respiratory ailments beyond asthma as well.”

    Typical bureaucratic abuse of statistics.
“Statistics don’t lie: but liars can do statistics.”

100% of the time the Sun sets after I put the geese away.
So, statistically, my putting the geese away causes the Sun to set.
There is a 1:1 correlation. Quod Erat Demonstrandum.

This is government “cause and effect.” They are LIARS.
As far as I recall, no one knows the “cause” of asthma – much less the cure.
