FAA STATEMENT 0815 EST
The FAA is making progress in restoring its Notice to Air Missions system following an overnight outage.
Departures are resuming at Newark Liberty (EWR) and Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL) airports due to air traffic congestion in those areas.
We expect departures to resume at other airports at 9 a.m. Eastern Time.

The FAA is still working to fully restore the Notice to Air Missions system following an outage.
The FAA has ordered airlines to pause all domestic departures until 9 a.m. Eastern Time to allow the agency to validate the integrity of flight and safety information.

It was a couple years back down in Pensacola.

I just read a piece in the past week about a somewhat unique phenomenon on the sun, an X-class flare that knocked out radio transmission in parts of the U.S. (between Christmas and New Year?). The reporting stated that we were in for stronger and more such events in the coming weeks. Maybe this has something to do with this recent FAA problem.

If you “need” that system it had better be flawless. Oh, yep, its man made…
At big blue we called it “A Poughkeepsie reset” power down the whole system, wait 10 or 15 minutes then power it back up. Also “FM” phucking magic, and suddenly all was well, most of the time.
