Walmart Abandoning Portland – IOTW Report

Walmart Abandoning Portland

gateway pundit

In late March, Walmart is closing the last two locations it has in Portland, Oregon.

The company’s official line about the closings is that it has to do with store performances, customer needs, and other corporate speak.

Does anyone doubt that this probably has a lot to do with theft? Portland is a hotbed of leftism, and for the last few years, shoplifting has become a norm for the left. Further

  1. It has everything to do with theft. People with means will drive to the next city to buy, or they’ll shop at Costco for the basics. The plan is working. A Honda was stolen here, the identifying bumper sticker says “Keep Portland Relevant.” Belongs to a college student who also left their laptop and school books in the car. I call this karma to the max! College student I’d say was the one left irrelevant. 🙂

  2. “Customer Needs”

Sometimes what a poor customer really needs is to call a cab to get his or her meds because there’s no longer a Wal Mart close by that he can walk to

Thanks a lot, local govt for defunding the police. But hey, justice for George Floyd

  3. Apparently Walmart smartened up.
They just don’t have the moral courage to say WHY they’re leaving Portland.
They should speak the facts. Damn the Torpedoes! Full Speed Ahead!

The PR people must be a bunch of sniveling weasels with their thumbs up their asses while pulling their dicks and abusing words to convey nothing.

    No “Profiles in Courage” here.
But, that’s corporate America – cowards grabbing all the swag they can – and assuring themselves that they’ll be eaten last.

  4. “People who live near the stores that are closing say the closure is going to have a big impact on them and low-income shoppers.”

Tough shit. You voted for this, now suck it up.

  5. Well, they still have Safeway to shoplift, so far?
When I was doing a job there one of the Portland bums tried to sell me 3 packs of Safeway T bones for 20 bucks, I said no way. Drugs everywhere in the open 24/7.
    I hate that place.

  6. I remember when I traveled for business to places like Philadelphia, NYC, Minneapolis, San Francisco, Los Angeles, St Louis, Baltimore, Washington DC etc. They all had their charms. No conflict. No feeling of impending danger.

Not anymore. I wouldn’t set foot in any of those places anymore.

The manufactured race wars are politically driven and I can prove it.
Last summer I stopped in to buy an ice cream sandwich at a local convenience store here in central Virginia.

A little old black woman was in line to make her purchase and saw me, a 67 year old, standing in line to buy my ice cream treat. A complete stranger. She insisted on buying that ice cream sandwich for me in spite of the fact that I protested and said I was capable of buying it myself. I was not wearing rags.

I eventually let her do it and thanked her profusely.

The point is, that in the center of the Civil War theater, there is no animosity with the races here. She was as sweet as she could be. A total act of kindness to someone of another race. A stranger.

WHERE IN THE HELL DID THAT GO?

Decent people simply coexist. It’s not hard. It’s just not that hard. Treat each other with respect and offer acts of kindness. Is this hard?

And that was the sweetest ice cream sandwich I ever ate.

  7. Discounters run mostly low margins, shrinkage comes off the bottom line pretty clean, and the cost of shrinkage isn’t just the price of the item stolen, it has to be replaced and the system adjustments to keep inventory within a gross estimate of accurate must be costly and infuriating. Some of the leftoids can start squalling about food deserts once more, as Wallyworld votes with its enormous and ponderous feet. They definitely wouldn’t be leaving if they saw even a couple of rays of hope in the situation. The leftoids who were protesting Wally even coming into a neighborhood or town can rejoice, they’ve finally won.
