If you’re anything like me, you enjoy some background music when engaged with reading or other activities that require concentration. Popular music of any era is a bit too intrusive and can be distracting for this purpose. Classic music of the same old tracks heard time and again becomes repetitive, even if they are favorites.
One of my favorite alternatives is minimalist music and to simplify further, minimalist piano. If that sounds good, I’ve got a real treat for you. Here’s nearly 8 hours of the best in minimalist music played by expert Jeroen van Veen, considered Hollands best in this genre. Enjoy
I just put on Mike Oldfield’s Tubular Bells or Tubular Bells III
Apparently, I’m not anything like you, Dr. Tar. 🤣 I like quiet when I have to concentrate on something – and my music deliberate and engaging so I can listen to it exclusively.
(You’re okay to feel fortunate about this. But rest assured I agree with you philosophically most of the time!)
The track list is given in the information section. If you don’t like a particular artist just move to another as indicated. It’s all rather somber and quiet if that’s what you are looking for.
Listening to “Gord’s Gold” right now. I haven’t listened to this album in probably 30. Sounds good still. Now to play some “turmoil.”

Can’t say that I like it, but it is better than listening to Cackles Harris
Minimalist music but with a beat and competes with, while enhancing, concentrated thought:

My favorite background music is Andreas Vollenweider.

Martin Denny fan here.
Cristofori’s Dream by David Lanz is another CD I put on and let it loop.
Classic & modern piano so well done it’s mesmerizing.

You have great taste in music, LBS. That’s one of my favorites. Nancy Rumbel & Eric Tingstad is good, too.
