…if you also hear Jimi Hendrix singing “‘scuse me while I kiss this fly” in Purple Haze, then this interpretation of Ram Jam’s “Black Betty” is for YOU…

I’m sure there’s some deep spiritual meaning there, but it beats the shit outta me what it could be.

Watch, now there will be an outcry to ban the song if that gets around. I’d better play it while I can.

Those panda lamps are obviously made in China and sold at Walmart.
Ah. Another misheard lyric thing.
Plenty of those. Blinded by the light. Still never figured that one out.
My mom howled in laughter when I was a kid when I sang ‘going to the Jack-o-lantern, gonna get married’

“The 70’s are over man.”
Thanks God!

P Henry, when my hubby was a kid he and his friends had a band. His mother thought I’m So Glad by Cream was Anthropad.
When I was a kid I thought 10th Ave Freezeout was Dead Devil in the Freezer.😂

Black Betty was covered by Leadbelly and Ram Jam. The oldest recording I’m aware of was recorded by Lomax. https://youtu.be/tiCEVl_9-MM
James “iron head” Baker
I must have two dozen different recordings of it in my CD collection.

Look into House of the Rising Sun if ya’ really want to get educumated on another song that was around a long time prior to becoming a popular hit

Black Betty is the fight song for the Boston Bruins… another name for bears…?
She gotta let me through,
I know how soon,
You know a rabbit in an aeroplane, oh oh,
B-b-b-bunny in a jet.
I blame the AM transistor radio, and the crappy car radio.

wasn’t this song, in its original form, sung by British soldiers during the French & Indian Wars & the American Revolution, about the ‘Brown Bess’ muskets they used?
… at least that’s the way I heard it

I got it. It’s on my spotify playlist.

‘When she shakes that thing, it really
makes me sing!” ‘Shes so rock steady,oh black Betty”.
“Black Betty had a child, dam thing went wild!”

For the longest time, my wife thought that the Toto song “Africa” was…
🎶 “ It’s gonna take a lot to take me away from youuuu….
There’s nothing that a hundred men ON MARS could ever doooo…” 🎵

lam de lam / panda lamp… a bit of a stretch…
But, OMG, so are those videos y’all posted!
It’s Leadbelly. Which is not a heavy metal band. (But that would be a good name for one.) Evidently, I have been out of the loop since the 1930’s or so…

All I see is an endless surge of distraction from what is killing America.

Why must we racialize and sexualize poor black Betty? Isn’t this song now forbidden?

If, after all this smoke,
it’s only “Oh black Betty, panda lamp”

Little Morphin’ Annie,
I went thru my outsized music collection and found 16 Leadbelly albums that I hadn’t thought of in years and years. SO MANY SONGS come from Leadbelly.
There’s also an album called “A Tribute to Leadbelly” done in 1989, with Pete Seeger, Lunenberg Travelers, Sonny Terry, and Arlo Guthrie. A very enjoyable live album.

Thanks! It reminded me the greatest video of all time…
Not a music video. Bring Amber Lamps!
Had to go watch that again. Always makes me smile. Justice!
