I think we posted this before, but it deserves another round.
16 Comments on Misheard Lyrics Stand Up
I mishear almost all lyrics. It’s mostly noise to me. It’s usually good noise, but if you were to ask me to repeat the words I’d fail.

I never know the titles to songs.
For years I just buy CD’s of artists I like and transfer the entire album to MP3 or Apple files so I can run or hit the gym with them.
As for lyrics, for years I thought that “oonda gleeben, glouten, globen” was German and not made up gibberish.

I had that problem with Joe Cocker. I also didn’t listen to lyrics because I was a git-stick dude.
That’s a great example, and I’m a Joe Cocker fan. Some songs I understand what he’s singing, others not. But I still like him.

Be aware though, if you are White, you are NOT allowed to sing all the lyrics at a rap concert.
We live in FUCKED UP UNBELIEVEABLE TIMES!
Sigh*
*Of course none of us would be caught dead at a rap concert.
May end up dead…

To me lyrics are fine but I love long rock ballad-type songs.
Green Grass & High Tides
Paradise By The Dashboard Light
Free Bird
Stairway To Heaven
Blinded By The Light (Manfred Mann)
Some older Pink Floyd albums were only a couple songs per side.
Same with Frank Zappa.
They don’t make em like that anymore…

So, speaking of Joe Cocker, Mad Dogs and Englishmen Was Great. Leon Russell was awesome with these guys!
Some news aggravator pointed to that yesterdayish.

Thing with the karaoke lyrics: I would not bet that they are necessarily correct either. I have looked in official music books from the music publisher and THEY don’t get them right. I think they just have people listen to the songs and transcribe the lyrics as best they can. They don’t get official lyrics from the composer.
One of my favorite examples is Jackie Wilson Said by Van Morrison. If you know who Jackie Wilson is, you know the first line of the song is “Jackie Wilson said it was Reet Petite.” However, in an official Van Morrison book by Warner Brothers Music it has the line as “Jackie Wilson said it was ‘rithmatic.”
I also saw one book with Cinnamon Girl that said “…a bass with a beau.”

Is Lucy in the sky with diamonds still? I’m just like you. I never understood the lyrics. I thought that I was the only one.

I know lots of folks in my sphere of influence who still misunderstand the lyrics to Manfred Mann’s “Blinded By The Light”. For those who care…..”wrapped up like a deuce, another runner in the night”. A “deuce” back in those days was a joint. Now, if you all will “scuse me while I kiss this guy”! Yar!!!
