I thought of two films while watching that.
One is The Gallant Men (iirc) with James Cagney playing Admiral Halsey. In one scene he has to make a decision about something. He asks his Exec what he thought. Halsey went with his own original idea and not what the Exec said. The Exec said “Under the circumstances I think I should request a transfer.”
Halsey (Cagney) replied, “If you always agreed with me, what good are you to me?”
The other film is Ikiru, a Japanese film directed by Kurosawa. At the beginning of the film, the protagonist goes for a doctor appointment. As he waits, some other guy tells him that if the doctor says everything is fine, that he can eat anything he wants, etc., that means he does not have long to live. Sure enough, when the hero goes in to see the doctor, the doctor does everything the guy in the waiting room said. He asks the doctor if he has cancer. The doctors has a “Whatever gave you THAT silly idea” reaction.
Just some thoughts that crossed my mind while watching the video.
Both are good films, although neither one is necessarily everyone’s cup of tea.
They ran “Ikiru” on TCM this month and I watched it again over a few days. Really an excellent work on finding meaning in life. I was thinking this film needs to be remade for this country, we have the useless bureaucracy that only serves to thwart the needs of the people already. – Dr. Tar

What he missed is the problem of character flaws in leadership exacerbates itself automatically. Incompetent ass kissers get into leadership positions and then promote more ass kissers below them because that is the only talent they recognize and admire. They push competent workers aside because the competent easily recognize the incompetence of the leader and call them out, or make them look bad to others because they outdo and embarrass them.
^^^DEI is this phenomenon on steroids. It’s no longer happening in the background. Now it is openly encouraged.
