Chicago Firearms Safety Instructor Accidentally Shoots His Wife

Chicago firearms safety instructor, 61, accidentally shoots dead his wife, 60, while cleaning his gun and then turns the weapon on himself

  • Simeon Hendrickson, 61, was cleaning one of his weapons in the Chicago suburb of Bollingbrook last Saturday afternoon 
  • He accidentally discharged the gun and hit his wife, 60-year-old Laurie Hendrickson 
  • Simeon was pronounced dead at the scene as police arrived, while Laurie was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time after

Hendrickson was pronounced dead at the scene as police arrived after getting a call at 5:45 p.m. local time. 

Authorities said they’d originally headed to the scene for a report of a man who’d accidentally shot himself and on the way there, learned that a second person may have been shot. 

Wife Laurie died shortly after at a nearby hospital, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.   

‘The preliminary investigation has indicated Simeon S. Hendrickson was working on one of his handguns in his residence when it accidentally discharged and the round struck his wife, Laurie J. Hendrickson,’ police said. 

According to his Facebook page, Simeon Hendrickson was a gun enthusiast who taught firearms training.

    Maybe, maybe not.

    We’ll never know.

    Doesn’t really matter since everyone is dead,

    But I bet the insurance company fights paying claims tho.

    This does illustrate nicely that the 911 call isn’t always a reliable source of information, note how the story changed as they were enroute.

    And people in criminal situations tend to be even less forthcoming, so you don’t know it even is a GSW until you hit the door.

    Some people would also call a paid ambulance service because they think it won’t get reported if they avoid a muni agency. This is not true, all have the same reporting requirements (at least in OH), and the hospital damn sure will report it anyway if no one else does.

    But in the Bizarro Werld we live in now, I’m kinda surprised he even worried about it. It wouldn’t even end his career, he could go out and say “don’t do what I done”, autopsy photos optional.

    Oh well, may the Lord bless and comfort those they leave behind.

    That’s all that’s left to be said in a situation like this.

    Maybe I have been doing it wrong for Decades, but at what stage of Cleaning is there a live round chambered, or the gun not Made safe before disassembly?

    Apparently, according to police, it’s not safe to clean your gun. It can just “go off” all by itself.

  14. Sounds a bit suspicious to me. I’m skeptical.

    The government agencies and news… err their propaganda machine would never misrepresent a murder/suicide…

    We have been living through over a decade of the most rank and opportunistic exploitation of everything from a garage door pull being represented as a noose to every imaginable example of serial exploitation of obviously bogus hate crimes being misrepresented in order to advance a preferred narrative that supports their agenda.

    I have to call bullshit on this one.

  17. It could have been that the guilty firearm was a ghost gun assault rifle or a semiautomatic machine pistol. I’ve seen two articles this week that suggest that these firearms just go on a killing spree all on their own.
