A new report from the International Energy Agency (IEA) concludes that the size of the global electricity grid will need to double by 2040, in order to reach global emission reductions targets in line with the Paris Agreement.
That means, the IEA says, the world will need to refurbish or add 50 million miles of new transmission lines within 17 years — the equivalent of circling the equator more than 2,000 times.
The IEA estimates that global investments in transmission capacity will need to double to $600 billion per year by 2030 in order to reach that goal. More
The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
BUT WE KNOW THEY’LL PRESS AHEAD BECAUSE IT’S A GREAT BOONDOGGLE, A SELF-LICKING ICE CREAM CONE….MMMM MMMM GOOD $$$$
They also have no idea on how to recycle millions of EV batteries either. “Oh, we’ll worry about that when we get there.” I get the feeling that those millions of EVs will never be made and the grid will never be upgraded.
Sheeee it! We knew all that in 1973!!
Attaining Paris Agreement levels will ALWAYS be out of reach, but our would-be masters will ALWAYS keep telling us we must succeed, and they will ALWAYS rob us of more of our wealth and freedom.
The amount of ‘Large Transformers’ (actual industry term) needed for that cannot be produced in that time frame. So anyway…
It’ll never happen. The child labor needed to mine rare earth elements will all be gone.
You can only push an under-nourished 8 year old only so far.
What will be the “carbon footprint” of manufacturing the copper and aluminum needed for 50 million miles of new transmission lines ???
Gee Wally, think of all the additional EMI from a few more Giga-Watts…
Remember, every EV is like adding a nuther house to the neighborhood!
