  1. I have a friend I think I first met in 1975 and started hanging around with in late 1976. I messaged with him yesterday.

I had a friend in knew since 1969, but he passes away in 2011.

A FB friend from high school went to the same Jr. high school as I did in another town. I sent her pictures from our 8th grade yearbook, but we never talked to each other back then.

I do have another friend I see on FB from time to time that I have known since 1972. We and our wives got together about 4-1/2 years ago. We went years with not contact, unlike the friend I mentioned above.

Some of the people I graduated from high school with have known each other since elementary school. My father was in the Army and we moved around, so I do not have the luxury of knowing anybody since elementary school.

BEEN RECLUSIVE FOREVER, NOT IN TOUCH WITH ANYONE, ZERO FRIENDS BY CHOICE

ALONE BUT NOT LONELY, MARRIED ONCE BUT IT WAS LIKE PRACTICING BLEEDING

  3. That friend who died in 2011? Mrs. RadioMattM and I went to dinner with his mother in 2014. We exchanged Christmas cards with her for several years. The last one we received from her was two years ago. She passed away last December at age 97.

  4. My BFF I’ve known since 3rd grade. We talk/text almost daily. We r complete opposites politically though and it’s the one subject we just don’t discuss.

I have another friend I’ve known since we were babies but it’s more of a yearly Christmas card note than daily/weekly interaction. I see her maybe once every 2-3 years or so.

  5. My ex-wife and I met in 1973 when I was a freshman in high school and she was in the eighth grade. Sadly, we divorced in 2011 after 32 years, but we still maintain contact.

  7. Before I turned 15 and started dating Mrs. Fish, there was another girl I dated maybe 4-5 times when I was 14. She introduced us and was Maid of Honor at our wedding. We’re still in touch. Had dinner maybe 5 weeks ago.

  8. My son’s wife is the daughter of one of my grade school classmates, from the city of my childhood 1000 miles away. We hadn’t seen or been in contact for 30 years until the wedding. Strange twist of fate.

  9. Like RadioMattM i was an Army brat and most schooling took place in other countries. We moved often and sometimes back to the same country. I was in touch with a dear friend from high school until he died a few years ago from Huntington’s chorea. So many of our friends and former coworkers have died much earlier than they should have. Stress and the jab I believe.

  10. Actually am staying at a friend’s this week, he’s a year older but I was in diapers with his sister.
I am in touch with several people who lived on my street since before kindergarten, and several I was in pre-school with.

  11. I had a ‘first crush’ when I was 16. I asked her to marry me when I was 18. She married someone else when I was 21. She’s been married twice since then. Each time her divorces were finalized she called me to tell me she was available. GMAFB… Oh, and she became a flaming Liberal in her 30s after Woodstock, so I guess I was spared a life of misery.

  12. Donnie’s grandma used to baby sit us when we were toddlers in diapers. He and I went from 1st grade (1959) through HS together. He stayed in our home town and I left for Miami in 1977. So we live about 650 miles apart now, and still best buddies. When we get together, one of us will remind the other about toodling around in diapers together and remind each other that, before long, we’ll be doing that very same thing.

  14. My frend, Chuck. who I have known since we were five years old. (We are now 71+.) When we’re together we can finish each other’s sentences. He has finally moved from a blue state to red state. (I did that 13 years ago.)

  15. Frank, who lived accross the road from where I live now (same house I lived in as a kid)…he now lives a mile and quarter away. I see him 2-3 times a week. We went to the two room school house that had first and second grade in one room and third and fourth in another. That school house is still 1/2 mile down the street, and is now a church. We walked there from our homes, no bus. Damn those hands on the clock.

  16. My first chosen friend (rather than imposed by neighborhood proximity) goes back to the age of 6. We were thick in elementary school, both coming from kooky families and left pretty much to ourselves for hours or days, but then her parents got divorced when we were about 13 and her heroic father sobered up and moved away and took the kids with him.

Somehow we managed to stay in touch into our early 20’s, then reconnected in our 30’s and have stayed in intermittent contact since. Every time I think she’s finally dumped me, a 3 page handwritten letter arrives.

We are about as different as we could be now: home life, community, political views, career, etc. but we are the only ones who can understand each other’s bizarre family updates without explanation… Our odd parents and weird siblings have not disappointed in over five decades but it’s usually too much trouble (or embarrassment) to try to bring new friends or colleagues up to speed. There is great comfort in knowing there is an East Coast urban Jewish liberal single mom social worker who truly understands me and where I come from.

  17. My friend Lori’s family built a house next to the one my parents were having built in 1968 in NJ. We met when our parents came to inspect the foundations at the same time. We were 10. We’ve been friends ever since, despite my moving out of NJ at 14 and then all over the country in the ensuing years, and her now working from both Houston and Jacksonville. We keep in touch, meet up when we can, and pick up right where we left off.

  18. My childhood friend who grew up three doors down from me. We’ve been friends since we were in diapers. We have lunch once a month and its non-stop laughter the whole time.
