It’s frightening what the new “average” person doesn’t know these days. What’s more, they are proud of their ignorance as though to know ordinary things is beneath them. Just last night talking with a 28 year-old guy, a well-compensated tech engineer, the subject was a particular house he was considering buying, I asked, “You mean the one with the upper shingles and shiplap siding?” He asked, “What are shingles?” I’ve never had to describe what shingles are! How could anyone his age never had the concept of shingles enter his world?! This is an American born and raised kid! I know for a fact that every house he’s ever lived in has had at least a shingle roof.
Wouldn’t you be embarrassed to not know what wood shingles are? Is it just me?
