I Didn’t Know She Was Still With Us

DM-

Joyce Randolph has died, at 99.

Honeymooners star Joyce Randolph dies at age 99: Actress played Trixie opposite Jackie Gleason and Audrey Meadows in the 1950s classic TV show.

She played one of the main characters on the popular sitcom The Honeymooners, which aired from 1955 until 1956.

The show was centered around Jackie Gleason’s rough NYC bus driver character Ralph Kramden who was always yelling at his wife Alice, played by Audrey Meadows.

But he had an optimistic side as well.

They lived in a Brooklyn apartment building near Trixie and her husband, Ed Norton, who was played by comedian Art Carney.

  1. I watched the Honeymooners every Saturday night with the rest of the family. A typical 1950’s scene with us kids laying or sitting on the floor (rugrats) and mom and dad sitting on the sofa.

I think she was more NY than Hollywood. I liked her and thought she was quite attractive while a cast member of the Honeymooners.

  2. If anyone out there likes Art Carney, he had a song out in the fifties called “The Sewer Song”. It’s on UT and good for a few laughs.

The last time I saw him on TV, he was in a Pepsi or Coke commercial in the 80’s or 90’s – of the 20th century that is, not the 19th.

The commercial was filmed at a place I know well, Refugio State Beach, a little north of Santa Barbara. I used to go camping there a lot. I could tell right away it was filmed at Refugio because I identified the cliffs at the north end of the beach that served as a background in the video. And I confirmed it with the manager of the store there.

    “Yessir, Ed Norton’s been here”.

  3. Ed Norton worked in the NYC sewer system in the Honeymooner skits.

In his “The Sewer Song”, the last line of the song: “Together we stand, with shovels in hand, to keep things rolling along”.
