I put a thumbs down to accompany this because I am sure more people will react negatively than positively.

  1. I like the Doors. But I only just bought one of their LPs in 2023.

    Led Zeppelin, for sure.

Pink Floyd and the Beatles, for sure.

I did enjoy some Genesis, but some of it was dogshit.

The rest of that is all dogshit but Fleetood Mac with Peter Green, and the Mystery To Me LP.

  3. Erik,
Buddy of mine in the UK back in the day was avid mac Albatross. That tune takes me right then.

I’m just thinking this up right now as I type this, kinda AI in Real Time. There is a sound clip. When I write about the UK, it is from nearly 40 years forward vantage point. Brits loved Snooker, their version of Pool (much more difficult and great fun if you like both which I did [see How to win on-base with off-base skills and other bar and grill games] and they had Champions and Championships too. There were only 3 channels and Snooker was on a lot as well as Darts. Bully for Me. I loved both. Anyway, MrP and Toots, you should checkout the guitar licks on the TV theme song from that show. Wish I knew the name of it. I know youtube has a collection of snooker from the late 80’s. The intro had an overhead CGI animated pool table with advanced graphics and the soundtrack. Good stuff. Anyways, checkout those licks and riff it.

    Also, Albatross. Good Times.

  4. Jimi Hendrix was nit a band. Yes, he was a great guitarist and auteur, but Eddie Van Halen is the greatest rock guitarist who ever lived. Taste in music has zero to do with it. He was simply the master of rock lead and rhythm guitar – at the sane time.

  5. Wow!
    It is real.
Have NOT qued to listen yet to ensure this is what was thought
    However, I think so

The Doug Wood Band – 1976 – Drag Racer

Will confirm when able but just the description alone rings a bell. I can hear in my head right now anyway. In Perfect Fidelity.

    Thanks for the Trip.

  6. we will never be able to make comparisons going forward in the age of streaming and Internet music, there simply aren’t comparable sales methods now.

But they would never be beaten anyway because the kids just can’t do anything original that doesn’t suck, and they know it. The kids still know and like Led Zeppelin, but my generation when that was new wasn’t grooving to Bix Beiderbecke or Louie Armstrong or even Glenn Miller, but kids today are effectively doing just that, as this picture of Robert Plant today demonstrates…

…and that picture itself is 6 years old.

So I’m not sure what the kids are going to do when this picture is a grave marker.

I guess AI can keep the music flowing…

…as far as modern tastes, my kid just bought a Nirvana album, which is probably the most recent band he has on an actual, physical record.

Kurt Cobain died 5 years before he was born…

  8. Adam; Hey God, you just had me name all the animals, but nit that guy over there. Who’s THAT?

God; OH, that’s just Keith Richards. He was here when I got here. His guitar work really got my creation juices flowing, but I’m a little concerned about his Sympathy for the Devil.

  9. Did any bands shock you? Yes, Guns and Roses, Bon Jovi. The Beatles were my number one band until I heard, Steely Dan. Still, I have more Beatles vinyl than any other band, including, The Rolling Stones.

  10. A few albums have mostly good tracks, e.g., the Beatles, Steely Dan, Stones.

But the majority of them have maybe 2 or 3 good tracks and the rest is Garb-aage, which seldom got airplay because they weren’t very good. R&R bands had to fill up their albums with something to make it an album, so it was the musical version of throwing crap on the wall and hoping something sticks.

The lousy tracks did not probably make any difference to Stoners who were usually out of it anyway.

  11. Led Zeppelin had Grand Funk as their opening act at the old Olympia in Detroit. GF was tearing it up and the fans wanted more. Zeppelin’s manager had them pull the plug on Flint’s own Grand Funk Railroad and then kicked them off the rest of the tour. Sad the rock-n-roll hall of fame won’t acknowledge GF and their contributions. Even Homer Simpson asks,”nobody knows the band Grand Funk?” “The wild shirtless lyrics of Mark Farner?” “The bong rattling bass of Mel Schacher?” “The competent drumwork of Don Brewer?”

  12. Why wasn’t I mentioned? I sold 89 quadratrilmegazillion albums. I made ‘um when I was lifeguarding in that Puerto Rican pool next to the black church I attended….no joke.
