I have a niece who was a violinist in the SLC symphony orchestra (or was it Phoenix) who said three of the members were trying to see how disreputable their formal wear could become before it was unwearable. Duct tape was a favored item but black electrical tape was used if the repair was visible. They had a case of beer riding on who could make their tuxes last the longest.
