  1. When you are are a 76 yo black man (ie, the cancer is aggressive) taking radiation for prostate cancer … thats not a good sign. It means the cancer has escaped the prostate, which means surgery will do no good. And if PC got to the lymph nodes in the seminal vesicles, then radiation wont help, either

This looks like OJ will be gonzo by year’s end

I’d beg to differ. Mine was Gleason stage 7. I had the radical surgery, and two years later my PSA stated increasing, so off to radiation treatment. I’ve been cancer free for 11 years now with no discernable PSA level at all.
    OJ notwithstanding.

  3. I have mentioned this here before but will repeat it. The judge who put Ito on the trial was a friend. Ito had married him and his wife (also a judge), and begged to be put on the Simpson trial. Boy did he regret that! I asked him, just a year or two after the trial, whether he had seen any of it and his opinion. He had sat in on a lot of it, and he said he had never seen such overwhelming evidence to convict. And the task of thanking the jury afterward fell to him. He said he felt sick in thanking them for the awful verdict. Yep, no question that OJ did it.

Just so you know, Im well acquainted with this disease. Took surgery .. with a positive margin. Six months later PSA started showing up again. Have kept it at bay with supplements and avoiding al cancerogenic foods. This tiny 0.2 cluster isnt a danger because the lymph nodes in my seminal vesicles are also gone. Now is that whats going on with you?

What Im thinking about OJ is the scenario that took my fathers life. There was no PSA test, so he only learns about his condition when he has a sudden urological emergency where his urine flow was completely cut off. The only possible explanation for that was the presence of a highly aggressive Stage IV cancer that had already jumped the boundaries of the prostate. And he took radiation which gave him three years, until he gets the news that it had metastasised. Three years prior, it had reached the lymph node

Thats probably whats going on with Simpson. Dark skin, which blocks suns rays and Vitamin D synthesis, advanced age, and high testosterone = highly aggressive cancer. And black superstar athletes have this feeling of invincibility, which means they dont do the necessary monitoring until its too late .. So thats how I think this case differs from yours

  6. Prostate cancer is usually a very survivable cancer… unless you ignore it hoping it will go away like my Uncle Duane did. Difficult to ignore being in such an innervated area…

If he’s getting treatment, probably not on hospice just yet. Only time you have chemo or radiation is for palliative purposes.

  7. From Hoo Hoo: “Only time you have chemo or radiation is for palliative purposes.”

What? Palliative care is for relief from pain. By definition. Chemo and radiation have absolutely no indices that relieve pain. Indeed, they are often the sources of pain and discomfort that patients have eschewed in favor of palliative care at end of life prognosis.
