Armored Brigades to Get Robot Platoons

Defense One

“Those force design updates are working their way through the system now,” he said. The platoons would be known as robotic and autonomous systems, or “RAS,” platoons.

Officials aren’t sure yet how many such platoons an armored brigade combat team should have, but they are experimenting now, Norman said.

If implemented Army-wide, the new platoons would lead to a dramatic increase in the use of robotic systems, and ground robots in particular. The Army has 11 armored brigade combat teams in the active force and five in the national guard, meaning that, at a minimum, the Army could field 16 RAS platoons if every brigade was assigned a platoon. More

  1. Sure. The army was supposed to get a new helicopter also. Scratched.

They need robots because the soldiers are too fat, stupid and don’t have muscles.

  2. We’ve been doing work for General Dynamics since the early 80’s. One of the better first tier contractors. Very good mechanically, a great quality organization to work with and eager to hear any DFMA ideas.

That companies been around for ever. Back in the day the specialized in servo motors, pick and place type shit. A some what natural progression to the dawgs of war I guess. Back in they day they were not what I would consider a well funder org. I want to know where they’re getting all that money to throw into Fito the metallic fighter R and D project.
About ten years ago we were doing a lot of R and D machining for a spin off. Macro Dynamics. They eventually went tits up. I was invited to attend an R and D engineering meeting. Which I did. It was held in the parking lot where they had placed a double wide that’s interior looked like it rolled out of the 70’s. About ten minutes into the meeting some one fired up a joint and started passing it around. I knew they were gonner right then. Engineering, like most things in life is a discipline. Oh yea, they manufactured throwable robots for military and law enforcement. What’s a throwable robot? You throw it in the room where the bad guys are, it rights itself and start filming. Someone piloted it remotely.
