Name movies with good stories, but the movie kind of sucked.
It’s probably hard to name some because you can’t really mess up a good script, can you?

I watched Waterworld again the other day.
It received the worst reviews when it came out but I actually think it has aged pretty well.
The problem with any movie made these days is where they shoehorn in a minority or DEI actor.

Masters of the Universe (1987) – the He-Man movie with Dolph Lundgren. It was pretty campy and predictable. Them (1954) with James Arness. The movie wasn’t bad, but today’s special effects would make it much better. The second trio of Star Wars (with better scripts???
The Final Countdown. Only this time let us blow the Japanese out of the water and alter the outcome of world war II.
Waterworld and The Postman were wonderful science fiction stories made into poor movies. I think one of the problems with “The Postman” was the effete critics thought it was supposed to be “Il Postino”.
If they did re-do these movies, Kevin Costner should be barred by law from being involved.

Dragonheart. the only saving grace was Sean Connery as the voice of the dragon.
they live. great story, horrible effects. had Roddy Piper though so was still a good bad movie.
Jason. I don’t know about that but I have long thought a good sequel would have the aircraft carrier going back to February, 1942, and successfully stopping a Japanese invasion of the California Coast for what history now blames blames on a bad case of nerves. How could the government say “Oh, an invasion was successfully stopped by members of the American military who came from 40-50 years in the future.”
Deep Throat, only this time cast Kamala Harris as the lead.
On a related topic, there was one movie I saw that is regarded as one of the finest comedies ever made: It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad World. Granted, I watched it on my iPad, but I wasn’t all that impressed. However, I would love to see it on the Big Screen. The scenery was fantastic. There is a story that all the establishing shots were done before they brought the actors in and they showed those shots to the cast. Buddy Hackett reportedly said, “Why do you want to spoil that with dialog?”
Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero (2018). This wasn’t a terible movie, but it was a cartoon and aimed at children. I love the true story of this amazing dog and would love to see a live action version, giving the story the gravitas that it deserves.
Matt… so the movie has to be realistic? Then I’m out.

You could never remake the scene in It’s A Mad Mad Mad Mad World where Jonathan Winters singlehandedly destroyed that gas station in the middle of the desert. Poor Irving and his partner they never stood a chance.
Battlefield Earth. The Tommyknockers. Dune.
All great books, but God awful movies.
Popeye with Robin Williams was just incredibly horrible.

Not a movie, but a British TV series that only lasted 7 episodes: Banished. Prisoners from England who have been banished to a penal colony in Australia. Good actors, beautiful scenery and (potentially) some interesting plot lines. I felt they ruined it by turning it into a soap opera, more concerned with “who shagged who”.
No more reboots, and get rid of the comic book movies.
A few years back AMC produced a vampire series in vintage New Orleans.
Naturally the lead was black & gay/bi.
