A Critter Post for Woody

Woody sent this to me for the Critter Post, but I never got the email. He resent it and I got it this time. But with them both crossing the rainbow bridge, I thought it needed a special post. Here is what he wrote:

Our beautiful 2 boys, Henry and Edgar.
15 wonderful years – forever in our hearts.
Henry passed away in June, one of the sweetest boys that ever lived.
The lighter-furred Edgar, died yesterday. A fuzzy little Norwegian Forest cat. His small size never phased him. He was a lion in his heart.

They were best friends their whole lives.
I hope they are together again.💔

  1. Reminds me of all the great kitty friends I have had over the years, some of the best were ones that wandered in and decided to stay. When you think of them, remember all the fun and good times you had.

  2. Woody – I share your pain. Hang in there friend. Pets bring us a lot of love, and there is always grief when they finally leave us. We are left with sweet memories.

  3. My maternal grandmother had four cats, Valentine, Penny, Ember, and Harry. Valentine and Penny were very friendly and lived past 20 years. Ember was playful and was always trying to ambush everyone. Harry was an asshole. Ember and Harry lived to just shy of 20. From the seventies to the nineties those cats were always there, they were always part of the visit to grandma’s house.

  4. Within the dominion God has given us over the animals, who’s to say that it cannot be that there’s no room for a bonding between man and cat (or dog or ?) that’s so close that the beloved pet becomes an extension of ourselves and, with God’s mercy and grace, is waiting for us when we ourselves become one with our Maker?

(I really hope that’s not blasphemy or heresy!)

  5. We all hope that, Uncle Al. But it’s up to God just what he plans for us and our critters. I trust him that Heaven will be more wonderful than we can ever imagine. It just brings comfort to think maybe our love for our critters will still be with us.

  6. So very sorry. It’s so hard to lose a beloved pet — and 2 so close is heartbreaking. I lost my orange, Sunny Sunshine 5 weeks ago. Rescued another orange, Murphy, 2 weeks ago. It does help to heal the heart.

  7. Hugs to you Woody. Losing a cat or dog buddy is so hard. They had a wonderful life with you and loved you as much as you love and miss them. 🐈 🌈 🐈‍⬛ 💕

  8. My mom and dad had a male black and white tuxedo cat adopt them when he was a kitten who showed up one day by their back sliding door. They adopted him and named him Fred and he was with them for 17 years until my parents both passed away in 2018. Fred was also the world’s best mole killer since there were some moles in their garden, even bringing them up to the house for them to inspect. My mom when she had sundowners and was crazy as a loon hid the cat food from me and I could never find it, but Fred’s cat food bowl was always full every morning, I finally found the cat food hidden in a large popcorn tin in their back bedroom closet.

  9. Thank you all for the thoughtful comments.
This is tough for my wife to see but she is honored.
They were her babies before I met her. We all went through so many changes together.
I appreciate so much you memorializing our sweet boys forever. 💜

  10. Thank you, Geni.
Yeah those little window bird feeders are a great source of entertainment. We had so many laughs watching them.
Once the birds realize it’s there, they come back every day.
    Highly recommended. 👍

  11. What a precious pair those are. Thank you Woody and thank Claudia as well for sharing them.

Pets are a sign of God’s love for us, tiny vessels that hold a spirit and a love far out of proportion to their size. Pets teach us to love in life, but they also teach us to face its end; but as with humans the separation is only a temporary one and you will see them again, with the Lord’s help and grace.

While you may remember them with sadness now, think on how much the Lord must love you to have blessed you with them at all. Remember them with fondness and love for the life you shared together, and take heart in the sure knowledge that beyond the grave lies more than memory.

    God bless,
    SNS

My two brother cats from decades ago are still lodged in my memory with fondness and affection. Your two boys will never leave your memory’s grasp.
